Stock TJ vs Stock JK

OK, lets be civil here but I'm curious to everyone opinon on what is a better out of the box off roader? Remember stock TJ vs stock JK. I am sure there are some former TJ owners who now own JK's. But I'd like everyones opinon. I am a former 97 Jeep Tj owner now have a 2010 JK sport.

It is smoother, it has more movement (flexing) ,And if we are talking stock vs stock the jk comes with bigger tires and has more ground clearance. They come with Dana 44's, Alot better MPG'S

I'd think some of it depends on what type terrain you wheel. JK's being a tad wider can be detrimental, but the added clearance is beneficial. TJ's shorter wheel base may be an advantage in tight turns, JK's power windows make it easier to cool off if it gets too warm

J/K They are both great on the trails.......... Do you wheel the one you have now?

Do ALL JKs come with rear D44s? That's news to me.

It just seems to me that there are a lot of people on here that say if you dont have a Rubicon then your Jeep just doesnt cut it. At least that is the feeling I get. However I dont think I would ever buy an electric locking diff which the Rubi has. I would much rather have an air locker.

Yes all JK's come with the Dana 44 rear, the Rubi has front and rear Dana 44.

I knew the Rubi's came with F/R D44's just didn't know that ALL JKs came with rear D44's. Thanks for the info.

As for Rubi's, they are the best stock Jeep made. However, a person can easily replicate or surpass the capabilities of a Rubi by adding better diffs and a better TC.

Everything other than rubi's get front 30's and rear 44's.

What sort of clearance/tires/etc came on stock TJs?

Depends on who the driver is, not the jeep.

+1 as with everything in motorsports, the driver is the most important factor in the outcome of the event.

JK's smoother??? Do you mean they are more comfortable? Are you referring to on the road OR off road? I can understand the flexibility - I think, but as far as performance a TJ will blow away a JK in engine performance - try putting a JK & a TJ on the line and look at performance. the 4.0 has a quicker take off, & outpulls a 3.8 L - which as most know is the same engine as the Dodge Caravan. I have both a TJ and a JK. The JK has more power. It has a much smoother, quieter ride on the road and much better ability off the road (even unlocked, to be fair to my non-rubicon TJ). The JK gets very much better fuel economy (20 mpg on a recent 2000 mile highway/city combo trip). Much more room inside the cabin of the JK over the non-unlimited version TJ. In fact, the only thing I like the TJ better than the JK is the fact that the TJ's exhaust can be made to sound better, in my opinion, over what can be done with the JK. Otherwise, it's not really a fair fight... JK wins by KO (stock vs. stock).

But hey, just my opinion. Others will have opposite views than I.

As for the mini-van comment... I mean no offense to you stu and believe me, you aren't alone in the comment, but I think that's probably the most nonsensical comment that ever gets made on the comparison. To me, it doesn't matter one bit what other vehicles happen to use the same engine, none. You're comparing the engine, not the vehicle. I had the engine out of a big ol' boat of a 4-door grandma car under the hood of my Trans Am and I guarantee you, you would not be talking down about it because it was the same engine as was in a grandma's 4-door grocery getter. My point is that the V6 makes more HP and torque and gets better MPG, not sure what all the fuss about it also being used in minvans is all about. Just sayin'.

LOL, BLEGAN. I hardly ever post out here. I'm just away from home, bored, and oh so ready to hit the trails that I just can't do at the present and so I find I've been spending an unusual amount of time on this forum lately. Don't mind me, I'll soon be distracted and not on here much again.

I guess I'm asking to be cut a little slack since that horse didn't look nearly as dead as it apparently is.

Just thought I would throw it out there...What would be the point of making a new model to replace the old one if it wasn't at least a little better than the older one? That being said I love my TJ and can't see me parting with it any time soon. But like some other people said its more about the driver of the jeep or any vehicle for that matter.

Jks got that soccer mom thing tagged to them. It's to bad they are beautiful jeeps. jeep made the jk to appeal to different types of people, not just off roaders. Its to bad but..... anyways, ya this topic has been kinda over done.

I hate to play devils advocate here Trey. But isn't Lindas TJ running 33's and stock gears?
If so her TJ is not stock and shouldn't be compared to your JK.
Regearing makes all the difference in the world.

You are 100% correct and I was not comparing the JK to her TJ in her current config. That'd be unfair, even if her's does look cooler than mine right now.

The Really nice thing about our situation is that we love them both, but she really connects with her TJ and I do the same with the JK and so everything works out perfectly for us.

Bottom line is they're both Jeeps and both are a FREAKIN' BLAST to drive. Just happy to own one of any model and feel especially blessed to have the two we have.

Of course but it'd have to have one bada$$ V8, all cammed-up and chompin at the bit to tear up some real estate.

I am trying to get my wife convinced she would like a JKU instead of another Grand Cherokee.

Oh, those new Grand Cherokee's are sick! If I had one, I wouldn't wheel with it like I do the Wrangler but I'd love one. A lady I work with got one and it is crazy nice inside.

We were very nearly convinced we needed to go with the SRT8 Grand Cherokee because we were still into the horsepower and V8 thing. Linda flat out LOVED the SRT8 but eventually decided the topless ability of the Wrangler was the way she wanted to go. I was skeptical and wasn't sure this whole Jeep/off-road thing was really going to be "all that". Boy! It didn't take long to convince me. We definitely made the right choice.

I think the JKU would be awesome for your wife, but the luxury of the Grand is hard to ignore.

Best of luck.
