Suggestions for 1st Wrangler?

Greetings All,

Did some searching and looked for stickies, but didn't see anything that covers the Title question.

At any rate, I'm not in a position to drop $30k on a new Rubicon, as much as I'd like to (more is better right?)

So, what would be a decent starter Wrangler? I'm thinking a 4.0L 6 Cyclinder as a thought. Other than the engine, what else should I be looking for. Budget-wise, let's say $5K for the sake of giveing the knowers of all knowledge a place to start.

Thanks in advance for your time.

OBTW, if there's already a spot on this forum dealing with this question, point it out. Cheers!

with a 5k budget, your pretty much looking at a jeep with the 2.5, or a very high millage 4.0. wranglers are expensive and hold their value for a while, ive been looking for a pretty long time now, and so far it has proved impossible to find a good runner with the straight six for 5k
clinging on to sanity, one motorcycle at a time.

Yeah as stated, a decent TJ is going to up the anti. Our 97 Sahara with 136000 on it, was almost 8 grand a month ago.

Look for a TJ, lot more update options out there, if you can, try and find a 6 cylinder, and even better one that has a Dana 44 rear. You'll have a great foundation to build upon.
97 Sahara, 74 Renegade, 72 CJ5, 55 Willy's (the Beast) Boss 302, 6:34 gearing, Bose 901 speakers.
God I miss that Jeep. Forgot the kinda Jeep, 80 SX4.
