Super stiff suspension

I have a 98 Wrangler that I have owned for 7 years (3rd owner) The first owner put what looks like a 3-4 inch lift on it when it was bought new. I know lifted Jeeps ride stiff and rough. But my question is this. If you are not a serious off roader can you lift a jeep that rides well? I know you can do a body lift but that looks like crap. I don't undestand why all the new 4x4 trucks and suv's are factory lifted and ride GREAT. Why can't a Jeep be lifted and ride soft too? My jeep if you hit a pencil in the road the CD player skips. I don't know name of suspension or shocks and the shocks have never been replaced. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,

XXL PUP

jeeps ride pretty rough, even stock. i would try replacing the shocks with a softer shock. old man emu, makes a great shock, from what i hear, but they are more pricey.

I put the Old Man Emu suspension upgrade in my 99 and I feel it rides better than it did when it was stock. I went with the stock spring weight since I do not have a bunch of heavy stuff on my Jeep. It is not one of the cheaper suspension jobs though.
