t case question

seems like dana 20 can be picked up cheaper than dana 300. whats anyones input on the 20, its gear driven, and a couple places have said its very strong. is it as good as the 300?

D300 has a lower range, like 2.62:1 over a 2.0:1 or something like that. They are pretty much the same other than the low range I believe.

really. i want a 4 spd t case. what do you think of the klune extreme underdrive? sounds like the dana 20 would be just as good with something like that as the 300. they are both very short which is good. i think the 20, w/ the klune underdrive in front is still shorter than np231.

If your looking for a 4-speed, go for a Stak. I think Atlas even makes one now. Talk about bomb-proof!

ya no kidding, i'd love that, atlas 2 is basically same to. but they are just over 2 g's now. i think i could build a 300 or 20, that would have same crawl ration for half. what do you think

You can easily build a decent ratio D20 or a 4:1 D300... but cost adds up really fast when you start buying rebuild kits, new gears and/or flip kits. I'd put together a price list first... then compare the pro's and con's of just buying a prebuilt unit.

ya, thanks guys. thats what i'm doing right now, weighing options. i do like building a 4 spd dana 20 or 300 cuz i built it and didn't buy it. but it might be better just to go stak or atlas.

i've only heard of atlas before i started this search again recently. whats the diff between stak, and atlas.

Stak can build you a 2-speed or 3-speed, AtlasII only has a 2-speed. Although the Atlas can come with a 6.0:1 low range, the Stak has a 5.44:1 low which is plenty. If you really want to go nuts, Atlas does make a 4-speed with a super low 10.34:1 if you want to walk next to your rig.

Atlas may be a cheaper solution though, something like $2300...

ya, i want twin stick for front or rear, and some type of doubler, or underdrive that seperately has a low hi, on top of the t case low hi. 4 spd baby. 5.44:1 is plenty.

man, i'm all P O'd. i've been looking at trans and t case combos all night. there's too many, and by the time you find one, adapt and flip it, or build a doubler its gonna be about the same as stak or atlas.

the cool thing is they make both of those 3 and 4 spd now though.

stak also makes a 300 w/ aluminum case, 4:1 low all new flipped for $1900

i like the 3 spd monster box, but now we're approaching 3 grand-$2600.

sm465 seems like a great trans, and they are pretty cheap, goin for 200-400 bux on ebay. anyone runnin that???
