Tap threads or drill out to next size?

Was installing my front bumper and one of the nuts that is welded onto the inside mounting plate was at a slight angle. I must have crossed the threads bc the bolt didn't go very far in. I stopped when it got tight and removed the bumper, then carefully tried to get it in but it would stop at the same spot. It's a 12MM-25MM Hex head bolt. I can't find that size tap anywhere so I'm tempted to drill it out to 1/2". Then ill just use a 1/2" bolt and a nut behind the welded one. Anybody else think I should just drill it out too? Also wondering if I'm looking for the correct tap. Online there's a 12mm X 1 and a 12mm x 1.5. What's the difference? I'm not an expert when it comes to taps

The 12x1 and the 12x1.5 is basically the difference in the thread taper and spacing of the 12 mm bolt thread. It's like coarse and fine thread of an american SAE bolt and nut. If you have the room you can drill it out and use another bolt that is longer to catch the nut.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just gonna go ahead and drill it out bc I'm already tired of looking for that tap and the bumper has been off for about a week now. My wife said she misses driving it around lol
