test drove 2011 grand cherokee

Got two short drives of the new GC on road and off today. On road, felt like most suv's. Power seemed okay, interior seem what one would expect for a Jeep suv. Fit and finish inside felt and looked more highend than prior Grands, as from what I was told the underside is mercedes(spelling?)

Off road.. I had the base 4x4 pkg, with street tires, the IFS rear lifted in the air on the approach to some off camber sections, and it needed a bit of gas on some ruts but made it through. The most impressive part was the hill decent control.. I want it. Made the rubicons's look like they were flying down the hill. Over all I like it for what is it.

On the plus side my kids got to go for a ride in the Jeep Huricane.. okay it was the fischer price version but still fun.. And lastly they had a nice area for mopar jeep add on.. seems 35's are part of that now...

No one buys a big expensive SUV to really tear up the trails. They just want the ability to get thru the snow, get down the bad road to the fly fishing hole, etc.

So I'm not one of the ones crying about the IFS, or the cushy air ride. I think that stuff is smart.

I just wish they didn't keep looking more and more like the Chrysler minivans.

Maybe just me, but I like the looks of the WJ (2000-2004?) the best. Of course, I own one of those, so you know...

My 2000 GC is getting old, but I don't think a new model will be one the short list. So many nice cars. Volvo xc90, Subarus, -- lots of "soft roaders" that will work great here in the winter time for my wife.
