Lightbulb The Dilemma

I currently own a 95 YJ in red. I want to replace my YJ with an 05 electric lime green. Dilemma is this.

Fiancee needs a new car, she also wants a jeep. Told her she could have my old YJ when I step up. She will only agree to the trade if I reprint the jeep pink.

All right, I tried the shut your mouth and take what you get approach already, didn't work. Called my bluff and re torted with the "were not married yet and if your going to be this selfish now" card. As I'm going to be with this one for a long while, I have two choices.

It's either desacrate Mona (the YJ) and spend hours re painting her electric hot pink to get my electric lime green jeep.

Or...

Ditch the fiancee and keep doing what ever I want to do! Nah jk, my other choice is to keep jeeping ol' faithful Mona and get the fiancee a newer jeep.

If you say to go with a re paint, and you've re painted your tub before, please give me a estimate on the paint quantity as well as the total time it took you to re paint the tub.

I repainted mine, used PPG shopline. Just under a Gallon did the outside, for inside get maybe another qt. Cost was under $400 total(includes other pre paint work and supplies.) but I had a buddy paint it for free, so that helped.

Cheaper than buying her a newer one.

Paint it pink but just remember that what you do now is setting precedence for the rest of your life together. Compromise is the key.

Cost of paint really isn't the problem. Time is my biggest issue. I work a lot 40+ hrs a week. I go to school 20 hrs a week, not to mention study time. So tme is my issue.

Just a thought. Does she like electric green? Maybe insisting you paint the current jeep pink is her hint that green is not her first choice. If she just really likes hot pink, why not? You won't ever lose sight of her, no one can say they didn't see her ( how can you not notice hot pink). Query, does she sell Mary Kay?

Ah, the start of a lifetime of compromise, she states what she wants and you say 'yes dear' ;-)

It's worked here for 25 years.

If it's going to be HER Jeep, then she should be able to do as she pleases with it. If it's going to be YOUR Jeep that you let her drive, then it isn't really a gift, is it?

All right, I tried the shut your mouth and take what you get approach already, didn't work.
And you didn't get a knee to the groin?

Called my bluff and re torted with the "were not married yet and if your going to be this selfish now" card. As I'm going to be with this one for a long while, I have two choices.
Good for her, because from what I'm reading, you are in fact being selfish. The old "I'm giving you this but ONLY on my terms" is great when you're nine years old but as an adult it just doesn't fly. If you give her the Jeep it's hers. It may be that she want's it pink because she wants everyone to know that it's HER Jeep, not her fiancee's Jeep. Chances are that she will make other changes to it that you won't approve of. That being the case, remember - it's not YOUR Jeep any more. You ARE going to ad her name to the title, right?

It's either desacrate Mona (the YJ) and spend hours repainting her electric hot pink to get my electric lime green jeep.
"Mona" is a Jeep... she may like it. Women usually spoil their vehicles more than men do. Jeeps anyway. Mona might be ready for a change. Women are like that.

Or...

Ditch the fiancee and keep doing what ever I want to do! Nah jk, my other choice is to keep jeeping ol' faithful Mona and get the fiancee a newer jeep.
Obviously you like the fiancee just a little bit so why not make her happy. It's JUST a Jeep.

If you say to go with a re paint, and you've re painted your tub before, please give me a estimate on the paint quantity as well as the total time it took you to re paint the tub.
How about this. Tell the young lady that if she wants to save up to have it repainted at a shop, she can paint it any color she wants to. Saves you time and puts the ball back in her court.

You should ask yourself every single day "What can I do to make her life better?"
If painting a Jeep pink is the least of your worries then you're in pretty good shape.

One other thought... that electric green and hot pink sitting next to each other in the driveway is going to look cool as hell!!

Never forget this: If Momma ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy.

Let me see if I understand this. You're against painting your Jeep pink, yet you think electric lime green is ok? What's the difference, both colors are part of the same "rainbow" IMO.

Like Kate said, lime green and hot pink sitting next to each other would look awesome...plus if hers is pink it will half-way explain why yours is lime green...and just let tell her to get it painted professionally or buy you the paint for it and you'll do it on your spare time...if she can't afford the paint, she needs something more fuel efficient then a Jeep.

Well, to be honest and fully truthful, she has a car currently. It's just a beater, she wants a jeep and I'm tired of working on her POS. So, in either case she will have a reliable jeep. But I digress, I don't do anything half asked. Once it's hers, its hers. She can add what ever she likes. I just didn't really truly want to be the one to paint the jeep. I don't care of its pink, we actually looked at a jk that was pink a few months back.

I really like the idea of telling her she can paint it what ever color she wants by saving for her self. I think that will work well, but to try something else in conjunction with that... we both agree Monas tub should be rhino lined and interior paint in black. So I think ill buy a DIY kit and let her see exactly what goes into re painting a car. As most of my problemfalls into the issue of time. I have very little free time and we usually spend that time doing things together.

And no, the asking for a pink jeep isn't a stick back at me for wanting a lime green jeep. She loves pink, on everything... and the bright green is my favorite color. I actually almost bought the new synergy green camaro. Dealer tried to f me over... but I drive 50 min to work each way and truly need something with more power, and ac. It gets wicked hot out here in so cal. She also likes the lime green.

I wish jeep color was our biggest issue lmao.

As an add to my previous post, I talked with her today. I told her that she could paint it any color she wanted. I told her if she saved for the paint I'd pay for the painter. She was fine with paying for her paint. But she scoffed at the idea of paying someone else to paint the car. She has the idea that "it will only take like an hour to paint the jeep" she has never painted anything before lmao. I told her we would rhino the inside and see if she still felt like the outside was something see wanted to tackle.

But the cost of paint isn't really an issue. I'm not worried about the cost, of just about anything. The time is my concern. I typically work 40 hrs a week and go to school 20 hours a week, not to mention study time. I'm afraid that we will be spending far to much time peeping and painting the jeep, when we could be doing fun things with that time instead. I'm hopeful that after painting the interior cab space will change her mind. Re reading this, I really sound like a lazy selfish complainer. Really I know that it will take several of my days off to do all the body work, prep work and paint the exterior of the jeep and I only have 1 day completely off every other week. So I just don't want to get a project half going and stop, leaving metal exposed.

And you can't knock the lime green. That color is epic. Lime green with light grey soft top is what I'm in the market for. To bad jeep only used the color for 2 years. It's difficult to find one in good shape.

Lime Green is epic..there was one around here I looked at before I found my current Jeep. and if she thinks it will take no time at all...just let her do it.

Like I said, it's not an issue of money, or a desire to get her what she wants, its a lack of time. I think my new plan will work. She has no concept of manual labor and truly believes it will only take an hour to prep and paint.

If money isn't the issue, get an estimate from a shop you are happy with. It's gonna take a lot of work to change the color from whatever it is now, at least if you want it to look professional and not slapped together. I work at a body shop, and once you factor all the trim and cutting into all the areas that are visible to the naked eye, you will see it is gonna be a true undertaking and alot of blowing paint in areas you thought you couldn't see.

Man, I'd kill to have my "girlfriend" (or whatever she calls herself this week) even acknowledge that I exist... nevermind have a debate on what Jeep to get her.

I say keep her and paint it whatever shade of pink she wants!
