The SpiderWeb ShadeTopâ„¢ needs your help!

I created this product a few months ago for my Jeep and I need some feedback from other Jeep owners. I am not a spammer I am a Jeep lover with a great idea and I want your opinion.

Thanks.

Looks like a good idea. How does it attach to the front? Do I need a footer? If not, then sweet. I like how you can put a top on over it. In the winter, you could put pillow between the net and the top for heat and sound insulation.

The SpiderWeb ShadeTopâ„¢

You do NOT need to add a footer it attaches to the footer just above the the rear view mirror. It works perfectly, The material is extremely strong so the pillow insulation idea is GREAT.

Is it zip tied on? How do you keep them from cutting into the roll cage padding after a while?

I was kind of wondering the same thing. Couldn't rightly tell from the pictures what is used to secure it so tightly.

Could it be used without a windshield at all, just attached to the front of a roll cage?

I like the fact that you can put the top up without having to remove that one. I'm sure most of us Floridians can relate to having a afternoon rainstorm pop up out of nowhere this time of year, and being able to put the top up quickly without having to remove another would be nice.

My only concern is like the others just mentioned... will it be held in place by zip-ties or by velcro straps or by some other means? Personally, I'd like to be able to remove the rear piece easily when I have the top on.

THANK YOU for the feedback! The front left and right side straps attach just in front of the roll cage pads this is where the majority of the tension is. Because the material allows some air pass through you do not have to tighten the straps to the point that they might cause damage. This is NOT a bikini top that catches the wind the SpiderWeb ShadeTop diffuses the wind.

Really? Because I have a mesh top and it does flap if I don't tighten it down. It was the first extra I bought so don't get me wrong, I love the idea and it looks pretty snazzy, I just have more faith in securely sewn straps than in metal grommets and zip ties.

I suggest making a full length island topper.. from winshield to tailgate coverage... I might buy one like that for the pillow idea during winter.

It would work perfectly w/out a windshield. If attached directly to the roll cage that would be a very cool application. I have 77 CJ5 with no side bars on the roll cage The SpiderWeb Shade Top is attached to the roll bar in the rear with 4 straps and we drilled 3 holes just above the front windshield to secure with 3 straps. It looks like it floating. The tops for TJ and YJs do NOT require any tools and attach in under 2 min.

Hello Tiny Terror, I am very interested in becoming a vendor so I can begin "pedaling my wares" has the vendor-showcase worked well for you? I know what you mean about the mesh top flapping I had one too but my velcro straps dry-rotted and my top flew away. The SpiderWeb top sits about 3/4 of an inch below the top of the windshield so the wind that does not pass right over the top lightly passes through it NO flapping.

Hi Vector,

Thanks for staying on top of the integrity of the board. Spider and I have already had conversations in this direction. He is not currently trying to sell anything on this site (Yet) and is just trying to solicit some feedback on his product.

Of which I believe seems to be a very solid product from what I can tell.

I think it looks pretty darn cool. Send me one and I'll product test it for you.

Of course, WF could always put one in the monthly giveaway and some lucky WF'r could be the tester. Just thinking of the rest of you guys.

You Know even if a little more $ the strap idea i think would be better if nothing else just to get it to snug up better at the back you have the right idea. also in my opinion if you had it both ways with and without the back piece it may appeal to a larger group, I have 2 kids that ride in the back and that would not be cool to have them behing a curtain. ( well maybe they would stop fighting)

Or they would fight more because you can't get to them.

What about attaching the back piece overhead behind the center loop. It would cover the back seats. That would kinda make it a universal kinda thingy.

Iv been looking at it, and the only thing thats comes to mind is the zipties. Just dont like the idea of using them, maybe come up with a different way to attach the top?

I have to agree. I have the Bestop Safari Top and love it. Keeps the sun from cooking everyone. I'd look at fastex buckles as Bestop does or velcro straps and drop the grommets and zip ties.

The other thought would be to offer the "What Wind" panel as a seperate item. That would allow those of us with other tops to utilize it. The velcro straps or straps with fastex buckles would allow easy removal when you were going to have rear seat passengers.

My 2 cents..........

Read my mind!

I love these things, as long as they arent cheaply made, make sure they are the heavy duty ones that wont break after afew uses.

Loop locks would also be a possible idea.

If you go with the buckles make sure the straps are SEWN very well. Biggest problem with straps is when they are sewn poorly and just come right off if you make them tight.

I'd love to test one of these things out, even give you better feedback after installing it and using it abit.

Levinoss, I was thinking the same thing...

Not only would you get better feedback than by looking at a few pictures, you'd also be getting some exposure to the public and generating interest...

A win-win... we get something to test/use/play with, and you get free advertising and a beta group.

Also came to mind if you go with the D-rings, maybe go with metal instead of plastic ones. Plastic would be cheaper but I think metal ones would last longer.

Wow you guys are great. The feed back is awesome! We are currently working on all types of variations to the SpiderWeb top including full length and a line for Unlimiteds. The reason we used the zips to attach is simple and it is what makes our product different. We experimented with velcro/buckles/loops end everything elese and it just was not the same. The zips and grommets allow the ShadeTop to sit inside the roll cage rather than on top or around the roll cage like the other products with buckles and velcro straps. Those tops are made to be taken on/off all the time. Since the ShadeTop sits inside to roll cage thanks to the zips and grommets it never has to be removed and the heavy duty zips we use will never breakdown/Dry-rot or fail due to UV exposure. I will be sending a SpiderWeb ShadeTop to the guys at the Wrangler forum for give away this week. Thank you all for taking the time to help me improve this product.

your product is awesome.the zip tie thing i understand now. except for on the divider onewhat if someone wants to get in the back or it rains and you put your top up isnt that gonna make it hard to see and hard to get in??? the top is awesome im probably gonna buy one within the next couple weeks but the back part has me confused.

The back part is mainly designed for Jeeps that do not see much back seat action. I would sell the top part only to members of this forum for 34.99

Thanks.

is this going to be both the top and the behind the seat thing because if not i think the price is a little bit high seeing as they already have these at q-tec;
http://www.quadratec.com/products/11024_30X_PG.htm
http://www.quadratec.com/products/11028_101_07.htm

but if its $60 for both, then it looks really good because you can still put a top over it without having to take it off, and it is like $30 less expensive then buying them seperatly from Q-tec!
