The things we do for love of our Jeep

I finally joined the the Jeep "cult" in August of last year when I bought my 2008 JKUx. Granted, my work so fair is modest, but it's all mine and I enjoy what I'm doing. Working on my Jeep has reminded me how much I missed working on cars. I've posted before about some of the stuff I've done, but it's so much fun to post and show off my Jeep I just had to do it again.

I'm far from finished, but I'll eventually get to everything. My only complaint right now is that I only went with 31.6" (32" for simplicity) Firestone Destination ATs instead of 33" BFG T/A KOs like I had on my pickup for a long time. Once I wear those out I'll jump pony up the cash for the tires.

i'm ready for the school year to end so I don't have to go to work and can pull the doors and enjoy the great outdoors.

The day I brought it home...ain't it all nice and perdy and shiny?

And this afternoon...ain't it still perdy and dusty as can be and beautiful?

Yes we do . Other than oil changes on my RV, I essentially gave up working on cars after I sold my '77 Trans Am in 1990. My new '06 TJ has rekindled my enjoyment of working on vehicles. Since I got it a month ago i've changed the engine and tranny oils, installed a rear hitch, a tow bar base plate, new seat covers, a surge brake cable, new plugs, bought and Fogmodded a new oil pump drive, and just this morning I ordered a new frameless top . Monstaliner is the next project.

I grew up working on a '66 Chevy pick up that was my first car. We brought it home on a trailer and the first thing I had to do was figure out how to install a carburetor. I installed, with help from my dad, a Rodchester Quadrajet into a rebuilt 327 motor. Got that thing retimed, new plugs, exhaust, and all sorts of crap. Finally installed a Turbo 350 tranny and burned up my tires in less than a year...dad wasn't too happy, but that thing would fly.

I moved on to other cars that needed minor work from time to time, but always told myself I'd make enough money so I could pay somebody to work on my vehicles because in college I had no cash and got tired of working on cars. So I had people do the work for me. I bought the Jeep and that interest was rekindled. I figure it has something to do with being a choice as opposed to a necessity to drive.
