The Wave

this might be in here already. but obviously there are a lot of new jeep owners coming here to get lots of info. and everyone here is great. i'm not a wizard with this stuff, but i've seen some sticky threads that stay up cuz they got good info.
all newb's should be indoctrinated about the wave right?
here's just one link i found

http://jeeptalk.org/jeep_wave.php

what does everyone think? i know when i first got a jeep i was wondering why people were waving at me, is my blinker stuck on, do i have a flat tire? do i know that guy?
and if you see a jeep in distress its your duty to lend a hand if needed.
nothin worse than a jeep owner, that doesn't know theres more here than the jeep!!

and i can't tell you how many jeeps i've stopped to help, on or off road. and i remember when i threw a driveshaft on the highway, a couple jeeps stopped, and i waved off a couple with a thumbs up that were about to stop, i had spare parts on hand. i don't think these guys that don't wave would do that.

Here in Tampa I saw a big improve of TJ's waving me back, but YJ,CJ & JK seems that they don't know what a wave means.

It's my understanding the CJ guys invented it... They ought to know about it. Probabaly too old or something by now....

(just kidding, I used to be CJ driver, so I can say that.... and yes, I'm old too).

there should be a little pamplet you get when you buy a jeep. this is why i say it should be given to them right away.

Same here in CT. I think the JK owners are like the RUBs when I had my Harley, they didn't know to wave either! (RUB=rich urban biker, you know the kind that think 20 grand and 20 miles make you a bad boy biker)

i think just because others dont waive does not make it ok to stop waiving i get the who the @#$% are you looks about 80% of the time but when you get the waive back it just makes ya feel good i waive weather im in my yj or my waggy. i even sometimes forget and waive when im in my cadillac
but i read a post some where and they said dealers should give "the waive" literature when they sell a jeep of any kind

Yeah, most of the JK's around here the worst they'll see are the potholes in the Wal Mart parking lot.

So...it sounds like we need to "inform" the new JK owners and the Jeep dealerships. How can we do this? The JK owners are manageable in my opinion...osmosis and a few words here and there should take care of that.

The bigger picture is the corporate office. Perhaps we should feed this back to them and suggest this to their marketing people. Think about it... driving a vehicle with a built in support base can increase marketing and that's worth money. They will only do something if it brings them more money. The hidden benefit is getting the new owners on board with the wave program.

I envision an add where two drivers (one in a older CJ and one in the new JK) pass each other and the CJ driver waves... The JK guy doesn't get it and he turns to his passenger (the passenger is his teen daughter or son who owns an older YJ) and the father asks "who was that guy who waved?" The teenager nudges him in the side and says "c'mon dad... don't you understand the wave thing."

We need to do something otherwise the new generation of drivers will not carry the tradition.

What do you guys think?

with all the "its a jeep thing" stuff out there it sould be a part of that ie "the wave, its a jeep thing" it should also be a mandatory topic on all jeep boards and 4x4 clubs that have to do anything with jeeps

And the worse part is that some of the new JK owners seems are people who couldn't afford a H2 and bought a JK, and then they pimp out the poor thing with 20''s and all that fugly cheap chrome stuff available from autozone or wall mart!!! thats just sad.

i think you sould run an off road course after you buy a new jeep but before they let you leave the lot then after that they sould hand out "the wave" brosures

I even wave at the pimped out JK's, because i would rather see that thing pimped out with the top off than see someone with another H3. Besides the beauty of living in the country is freedom to do anything that doesnt harm other people. I personally wouldnt do that to mine, but if they are happy with it, i give them props for doing what makes them happy with their money instead of conforming to what others would have them do with their jeep. Just my .02.

Oh, and as for the point system...just cuz its clean does not mean it is untested as the list says.

Found out I have been waving at a neighbor around town. My wife told me the friend had a new Jeep. She said he already knows...he's been waving at me each time we pass. Her husband laughed and told her that was just the Jeep wave. I confirmed because I never knew it was her
