Thinking of spraying my jeep with exterior house paint

So I've painted my jeep now twice with krylon flat camo colors.

Well they only hold up for so long.

What would y'all think about going to the depot having them color match a flat desert sand then buy the paint in a one gallon exterior house paint tub and the spraying it through my sprayer.

Any ideas

I personally think it will
Hold up much longer than any spray paint would.

Be a lot harder to scratch

Easier to keep clean

What's y'all idea on this ???

Wouldn't that ruin the offroad abilities of the Jeep?

Hummmmmm still thinking ... I think that stuff they paint homvees with is pretty much exterior house paint.

The military use to use a lead base paint to paint there vehicles bit they quit spraying them die to how harmful that paint is to the spray and whatever.

House paint wouldn't last as long as steel paint, it will start to flake. What is best to do is sand the Jeep all over & prime it with primer for steel & then paint it with corresponding paint. The primer & paint in one aren't as good as letting the primer dry & then applying paint top coat 2 or even 3 coats separately. Before you paint it go over it with Prepsol to remove any grease or wax of any kind. I am not talking about you getting a showroom paint job, it will be ok though

Ouch man! I guess you told me!

I wouldn't know anything about the Humvee I guess, being as when I was in the military from 1989 to 1995 we used horse drawn chariots...thanks for setting me straight!

I just had a friend paint his Jeep with red rino liner, he rolled it one time in each direction. It looks better than when he started.

It's HMMWV, and they suck badly in pretty much any off road situation. The only thing a HMWWV "curb stomps" is a toyota corolla. Ask me how I know.

Exactly. Those things can damn near climb a vertical wall.

It's called articulation, and all HMMWV's seriously lack it. Ever seen one on an RTI ramp? It's a complete joke. How many Hummers do you see in KOH or any relatively difficult trail for that matter? None, and there is a reason for it. In off road comparison, they are absolute garbage compared to any wrangler model. You guys obviously have never driven a HMMWV on anything other than dirt roads, or you would know better.

To the OP, sorry for the hijack. This site should be helpful for you, lots of good info regarding Rustoleum paint jobs.

Seems like liner might be a better option for durability and ease of application, though I'm sure it's more expensive.
