Thinking of trimming and painting my Sahara flares

I have an '03 Khaki TJ Sahara, which, of course, came with khaki flares. I really think it would look better with flat black flares. Also, the Sahara flares drop down a little more than other stock flares. I've noticed the last couple times I've been out wheeling that my tires are rubbing on the flares. I'm seriously considering trimming them about an inch and painting them flat black or maybe spray on bedliner.

Just looking for opinions, and wondering if anyone else with a Sahara has painted their flares something other than the body color? If so, can you please post a pic or two?

Thanks.

Here's some Jeep porn:

I don't know if they drop down more, but I do know they are 1" wider. Could that have anything to do with it?

I think the rear flares drop down a little more. At least it looked that way parked next to my friend's jeeps. And yes, they are wider. I can actually set a beer on the flares! I like the extra width, just thinking they would look better in flat black.
