This should be fun

Newbee here, Not really a newbie because I DON'T have a JEEP yet. I don't know what it is but I started thinking about a jeep several months ago and it will NOT LET UP. I walk up to complete strangers in grocery parking lots and say "hey how do you like your jeep." AND their never creaped out by it. We end up talking jeeps for 20 minutes until the wife calls and says what happened to lunch. Anyway I thought the best thing to do was join the forum and learn as much as I can about jeeps before what appears to be my destiny and I buy one. I live in Northcentral WY (actually in the Bighorn Mtns) and I'm thinking used 2000-2006 Wrangler but saw an add for a pre 1990 4 cyl wrangler that was interesting, not sure about 4 cyl. Really like the Rubicon, don't really know the difference between x,tj,sahara, sport etc., actually thought the Islander looked cool. Is that a bad thing. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Depends on what you want to do with it.... if you want a good dd with maybe 33s and selectable lockers go for a rubicon. If you want to build it up for 35s/37s big lift and a major trail rig then save the money on not getting a rubicon and get a cheap one and start from there. Don't go 4cyl if your going to go YJ (1987-1995) Stick to 1991 and newer so you don't have to mess with a carbed engine. Personally if I had the choice for a dd I would go rubicon. I can't tell you the difference between the tj x model or sahara model or islander I think they are just trim levels. Now the TJ unlimited is longer (by how much u have to ask a tj'er) and the rubicon tj has a stronger rear axle, dana 44, compaired to the crap dana 35 that's in other models. Plus it comes with ected e lockers I believe (someone will correct me if I'm wrong). Anyways happy hunting and continue to ask ?s

I think your on the right track . Look at newer TJ,s 2002/2006 keep the miles around 50/60,000 and look for a stock Wrangler . You need a 6 Cly 5 speed or Auto makes little difference . As far a Rubicon it,s just a jeep and will not get you to work any faster . Good luck it,s fun

I like the look of the square eyes on my YJ, it allways looks like it's glad to see me, and is ready for what ever I through at her.
Unlike the round eyes that look like its scares the H3LL out of them when they see you comeing.

I have to agree with you there, I had a YJ as a daily driver but that was 16 years ago,(damn that makes me feel old) they are gonna be getting harder to find with low miles and in good shape, much like CJ's were back when I bought the YJ. Time and mother nature take their toll on us and more rapidly on Jeeps. I'm all about TJs, I have 2 now, well, ones an LJ but neither are what I really wanted which is a Rubicon. Buy a Ruby, Dana 44 front and rear, electric lockers, 4:1 t-case, awesome offroad yet practical to drive everyday.

I don't understand the YJ haters. The square headlights don't make it any less of a Jeep.
