This winch....

Okay, Im on a budget. Working on a $10.30 an hour budget, but having to save for a house for me and my woman in about a year. So im saving a vast majority of my money. With that said, I really want a winch. Warn especially.

I found the above winch for $250 in my area, and it is rough! Just wondering do you think it would be salvageable if I do some good TLC on the outside of the winch so it looks alright? Or do you think itll need major repair to the internal gearing system?

I can spend around $400 for the whole thing, Id prolly get a new synthetic line if its cheap enough to restore. But I see Warn has a smaller winch for about $539. You think I should just save and go that route?

I just need some input from Y'all

The winch in the link looks like a great paper weight... pass.. Go with the new warn m8000 for the 539...don't forget about a winch mount plate.

How handy are you with a welder? You could head down to the salvage yard and mix and match yourself a nice set up.

We did that for my friends rig a few months ago. Found an old Bronco, fabbed out a mounting plate and went to work.

I think I would pass and save the money....you don't really use a winch that often, and chances are, if you save your money for a while, someone will get you pulled out until you have saved enough for the Warn.

Besides, that one on craigs list is most likely 24v if it was on a military hummer.

I'd pass on a used winch with an unknown history for $250, unless it's an 8274. And the 24v thing is not cool, either. Buy the M8000 for $539 if you need/want a winch.

If you need another person to say it, here it is.

Run like hell from that "deal".

Save your pennies and buy a M8000. That looks like a pandora's box of problems.

You can get a new winch online for 3-400 bucks.. Unless you're anal about it, or some kind of logger or super serious off roader anything for 400 bucks will do you right.
XRC8 Winch by Smittybilt and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware-RH2 <--there's one for 299.99, and they have a 10,000 lb one for 399.99 New out of the box.

Did I happen to mention.......

WARN

Don't buy a Smittybilt. Check out the warranty on them both and that should sway you. You won't regret buying a Warn. I promise.

I was just giving a quick example.. anything to sway the guy away from that disaster...
Warn is the best for sure.. save up another 150 bucks and get a Warn 8000lb out of the box and ready to go.. besides.. take it from me.. government stuff is built by the lowest bidder.. and that one has been spit out the @$$ end of the Army after about 100 years of service to it's country..
