Time To Stir The Pot ;)

i've seen several debates over round vs. square, and one of the recurring points i've seen is, "real jeeps have round headlights, yj are not real jeeps." i, myself, prefer round and am partial to cj's, BUT i think it is only fair to point out that since the ORIGINAL wranglers had square headlights, wouldn't "real wranglers" have square headlights? feel free to discuss ........

Valid and philosophically sound point.. Maybe YJ's are the only "real" Wrangler.. Mind.. consider yourself blown..

What say ye... those who care about headlight shapes???

I like the rounds. But, Jess makes a good point. The original Wrangler had squares.... So... I don't care. Buy what you want, I'm not going to make fun of anyone who has a CJ, YJ, TJ, or JK for that matter. I wish I had any of those.

This thread is about headlights?!? I thought you were making a big ole pot of chili and it needed to be stirred. What a let down.

My first jeep was a YJ and I loved it. My current jeep is a TJ and I love it. I don't care what shape the headlights are, they are still jeeps.

X2 to what amy says, although I do prefer the rounds. To me they are aesthetically more pleasing. But I'm not gonna harp on a yj because of headlights. That's just absurd!

i think the headlight debate is hilarious, a lot of us, myself included, bust on each other about headlight choice (all in good fun). i just wanted to give the square guys a good counterpoint when someone says "real jeeps have round headlights." that, and to stir the pot (in a fun way)

Wrangler is just a name . They're ALL jeeps. The reason they went back to round is they did a study (so I've been told by a YJ owner) and Chrysler found most people thought jeeps should have round headlights. Personally I don't care. The YJ's have a certain kind of appeal. And they've gotten me in and out of some cool places. Having said that, I prefer round...

Right now this is how I see things: (Square > Round)

Square headlights:

Round headlights:

BUT when I had my TJ, this is how saw things: (Round > Square)

Round:

Square:

As a person who Owns a TJ and use to own an 03 Liberty(round) I like round head lights ... Now, when I see a YJ I wave, but personalty, I would never own a square head-lighted jeep

My first Jeep was a 1980 CJ7 Renegade. It was just a "Jeep". I've never been comfortable calling a Jeep a "Wrangler". Even no with my JK, I always just call it a Jeep. When I have to differentiate it as a Jeep Wrangler, it just doesn't sound right to me.

I have to admit when the Wrangler was first introduced, I detested them. I've mellowed over time and now have no problem with them. It does make me a little nuts when YJ owners make disparaging remarks concerning the JK. It just completely blows my mind. I do understand the thinking because of the way I thought, but still have a hard time with it.

I really dont care... a jeep is a jeep... square or round headlights make no difference in the performance. When I got my Jeep I didn't care what shape the headlights were (although they are square and I am partial to them) I only cared about what I could do with it, and how I could make it better to get me over that next bigger rock! And my jeep has character, all Jeeps are different, you can't judge them by headlights because, although the headlights may look alike, the Jeeps are unique and are all different in their own way, thanks to us! So look at how it performs and how the owner loves it, who cares about stupid headlight shapes! And I'm done.

I prefer round headlights but I'm not going to run out there and scoff at YJ's because of the square headlights. To each his own.

A jeep is a jeep, like 1991 said above me. Styles come and styles go.

I love the "jeep" logo up top there ^ with the square "eyes" thats just weird lookin!

I have square ones on the YJ, but I like the look of the round ones. I must say though, I put in aftermarket lights that are so freakin' bright on high-beam its just mind boggling... I love it everytime I turn my brights on "BAM!"

I also installed trail lights on the front bumper that shine down the road, off to either side to help light up the stupid deer. With high beams and those trail lights, when your out in front and see me coming, you won't know what shape the lights are. They're just plain bright...

Just trying to stir the pot. Figured I'd get some hate mail for that response. Bring it minivan lovers!!!!

Common discussion heard in most 4-door JKs...........

Child #1......"Mom!!! Jamie's touching me!!"
Mom....."Jamie, stop touching your sister."
Child #2....."I'm not touching her!!"
Mom.....Why don't you put in Kung Fu Panda and watch it on the way to soccer practice?"
Both kids......"I don't wanna watch Kung Fu Panda!!!"
Mom........"Stop playing with the electric windows."
Child #2.......Can we stop at Braum's for some ice cream after soccer practice?"
Child #1....."Yeah!! Can we Mom?!?!"
Mom........We can't afford ice cream, girls. Mommy's gotta pay for these Gucci shoes and this Gucci purse. Gotta put on a show for all the other soccer moms. Plus, we haven't paid off your father's H2 Hummer. Sorry girls. We've spread ourselves too thin trying to keep up with the Jones'....."

Personally I like the Look of the round headlights.

BUT YJ's are Wranglers as much as any other Wrangler is a Wrangler.

Here's the thing. People saying "oh a CJ isn't a wrangler, Jeep didn't call it one" is stupid to me. Its the predecessor to the Wrangler, so is calling it a Wrangler really that bad? I mean come on, the designs are so incredibly similar that it is included in this forum (named Wranglerforum, if you didn't notice). Those who wish to argue this point are doing so just for the sake of arguing.

In your post, you're really stirring two pots. Or I just went off in left field...with me, there's no telling.

I'll continue to call a CJ a wrangler, and I'll continue to prefer round headlights. I only post derogatory YJ comments to poke "friends" with an e-stick. Those Ugly Jeeps are just as Wrangler-esque as any other Wrangler.

They all have their positives and negatives. a YJ's biggest negative to some is the square headlights. and to others, its the biggest positive.

We're all brothers in this Community. well and a few sisters.

I used to own a yj. Now I own a XJ. Both square headlights, both capable Jeeps. The main thing to me is what it can do. If you are "hung up" on what lights you have on your jeep, you"re missing the point!

I know right? Since when has this topic become soooooo serious to talk about. I guess that we may have to become politically correct on this forum as to not hurt anyones feelings. JK (just kidding) Whoops that might have offended a mall crawler. Damn sorry did it again.
Great story there cavey. I could actually see and hear that happening. Almost fell out of my chair.
Anyways I like the square so there!

I will do it for ya

F- jeeps with square lights they suck, they are so slow, even when you add a bunch of chrome (supose to make them faster) they still are turds.

I would drive over any square eyed heap with my round eye jeep anyday!

calm down ol square eye people I was just kidding
