How high do I have to lift it before I can put the 42's on I have 31's in right now and theres like a 3 inch gap in my wheel well. I'm a newbie with lifts and stuff any info or comments would be great UP FOR OPINIONS

You're going to need a lot bigger lift for 42s...

Does your gf's mom drive monster trucks? If you are serious about putting 42" tires on a jeep you need a LOT more than a 3" lift, and many, many other things to make it drivable, gearing, upgraded brakes, drive shafts, a huge bank account, etc, etc...

You will also need 4 matching size tires. two won't do it.

I would pass on the 42's. Read and learn a little more before jumping into something like that. Its not a simple swap. Not only will you need new gears but I would completely swap out front and rear axles. Maybe even go to 1 ton axles.

In order to fit the 42's you'll need more suspension lift, or keep the 3" lift you have and get comfortable with a sawzall and hammer.

You'll definitely need 1 ton axles, no question there.

42's on a jk will require you to notch and cut the frame. plus a whole host of other mods, here is my wife next to a jku with 42's. 14 bolt rear axle, 1 ton front axle. and that's just for starters.

Funny how often stupidity and immaturity show up right alongside large tires, or a desire for the same...

If you want to just drive down the road in a strait line and never do anything like... Oh IDK turn. Then its doable. But if you want to do anything else your looking at a whole lot of coin to do it even close.to right.

When my back and knee's are giving me fits, it seems like my 31's and 3" lift are amazingly transformed to 42s and 6" lift !!!!
