TJ SE can I have big tires?

I bought a 2002 TJ SE...since it is a 4 cyl is it not recommended to put big tires/wheels? This is how it looks now...

you can go ahead and put bigger tires on it. its just going to be very slow if you do not re-gear to compensate for the bigger tires.

I'm running 32's with a 4" suspension lift. I have a manual tranny, 4 banger with "0" mods, and 4.11's. 5th gear is useless unless I'm on the flat. Steep hills can be a beyotch, but just tolerable. Cruising around on flat or very mild terrain is not a problem. All things considered, I'll probably run 33's when my rubber wears out along with a few minor intake/exhaust mods.

I'm happy of what it looks now. But I'm not a big fan of chrome wheels I want to change it to black. You guys think my TJ is slow because of what wheels and ties I have on now? Quite honestly I don't even know what size of wheels and tires I have on there now. Suppose to pick up the car today or tomorrow. By the way what's the speed limiter on this car? My friend said 75mph on the highway?!

I've got a friend with a YJ that has a 4cyl. He runs 37's on it with no real issue. He dropped in a set of dana 60's and geared it with 7.37 gears to compensate.

No, your Jeep is slow b/c it has a 4cyl.
The current wheel/tire setup doesn't help, but trust me, it could be worse.

If you decrease the weight of the wheel/tires you can improve things somewhat. but going bigger will make it slower, unless as stated you regear.

and I don't believe there is a speed governor on any Wrangler...as physics keeps the speeds pretty low. Your 4cyl is power limited.

Good luck getting it to maintain 75mph.

You can find a set of stock wheels on craigslist all day long.. You should be able to get some, buy some really good 31X10.50X15 tires that'll make your Jeep look nice without losing too much power/speed and then sell you chromes for a pretty penny. Somebody out there wants them. Welcome and good luck. These types of problems/decisions are now your life.. it's a disease.

Welcome fitchick! Driveby has given you probably the best advice. That is exactly what I'd do... Stock alloys will weigh less, and you can paint them what ever color you want...

I just got the wrangler today finally. I checked the wheels/tires and it says 31X10.50X15 then I should be good as far as power/speed. Im not looking to get bigger tires as I said before I'm happy of what they look now. I just thought that I had much bigger tires on there but I guess not. But definitely will be replacing the chrome wheels to black soon. Thanks for the input.
