i own both a YJ and a TJ... i wouldn't get rid of my TJ for 3 more YJ's even if they were brand new and had been stored in a warehouse in a huge zip lock baggie

I can not imagine doing that swap. I do not know about the v8 swap either. I would not want to take on that project. Good luck.

I don't own a Jeep yet - still shopping..

Why would you guys prefer a TJ over a YJ and vice versa?

I'm looking at both, but will most likely end up with a YJ because of my budget.

Well the reason I got my TJ was it had coil springs (better ride) and I got a good deal on it! But ''WAS'' thinking it would be easyer with the YJ for a eng swap to a V6 or a V8

My Jeep likes it rough.

They both have good and bad points.

True! I like mine over all but the I4 just sucks! And to swap for a V6 or V8 I have to swap so much stuff! It would have been better if I had a I6,there would not be as much to change!

I have a YJ and i did a 304 swap and it was a pain but it could have been a lot worse... i wouldnt do a v8 swap from and I4 though that would be way to much work i would get a I6 and do a swap from that

Love the TJ suspention but I despise the interior (no room to get your jacket off when its cold outside, center console sux). Love the old school gauges in the dash of my yj. My dream jeep would be a YJ with a TJ suspention (with dana 44s and disc brakes all the way around, TJ head lights, CJ tail gate and 4.5 stroker I6. Man I wish money grew on trees!

I thought I'd put my two cents in. I owned a 98 TJ and sold it and bought a Liberty..then sold the Liberty and bought a 95 YJ. Wasn't crazy about the Liberty..it was nice and all but more of a car. As for the TJ vs YJ, they both have good and bad points. The ride on the TJ was a little smoother and there was a little more power. But having only owned the YJ for a couple of weeks, I'm really getting to like it and at the end of the day, they're both Jeeps so you're not going to get the ride of a Cadillac. The new YJ's have better heaters, etc and the interior of the TJ is actually set up more like an old CJ. All comes down to personal preference.

Yeah I'm going to keep the TJ! Now I just have to fig out how to make the gauges work or make a custom dash for a swap!

I love my TJ, but I think YJs are cool too. They both have very loyal followings and that should say something about them.

Why not own both? You can get a YJ in need of an engine for near nothing..

Nothing wrong with that at all. Best of both worlds. I'm still looking for a YJ that's in decent shape for the right price. Thought I found one a couple of months ago, but the seller backed out and decided to keep it. Bummer....

Oh well, I'm enjoying the hell out of building up my TJ, so it's all good.....

I'm the same way, but for the stupidest of reasons.

1. I despise the gauges on a YJ.

2. Square headlights bother me, a lot.

To each his own, but I will stick with my TJ.

So what are you trying to say? Don't hold back. Why don't you tell us what you really think.

TJ vs YJ

Personally, I prefer YJ than TJ.
- I like the square headlights from YJ
- It looks stronger and classic style.

TJ with round headlights, I hate it.

Sorry.. it is just my opinion.

I like 'em both, but for the V8 conversion, your best to start with a I6 YJ as it has a lot of what you'll need. From what I I've been reading, with my 94' I6 H/O all I need is a bell housing, engine mounts and a 4 core radiator. + some hoses and wires mind you... but as for big parts, I think that about covers the conversion to a Chevy 350.

IMO, the best Jeep would have Ford Axles and a Chevy (powerhouse) Engine!
