Top Gear - "Jeep"

So while watching Britians Top Gear, I started to get excited when they said they were going to be having a Jeep challange a snowmobile. However, when watching the episode the "jeep" left a lot to be desired.
Here is a link to the portion of the show that deals with the competition.

Would you consider this a real Jeep?

Nope. Not a jeep in the least. But pretty freaking awesome nonetheless.

A lot to be desired?!?! Can your Jeep do that???

No, it's not a Jeep per se, not more a Jeep than John Force's funny car is a Mustang.

One of the episodes they tested the JKU 2.8 liter diesel. I forgot which one.

They wouldn't dare do an actual comparison of the Jeep's offroad capabilities compared to say, their own Land Rover, because it would be an embarrassment for the Brits. The LR is a very capable vehicle, but they'd bias the test and only talk about how the Jeep is terrible on the roads and how it's interior is crap and it's noisy and handles like a turnip cart and so on. Not to mention the price differential....
I love the show and it's probably my favorite on TV, but they have a huge bias against American cars. Remember the Camaro vs. Mercedes test? Perfect example. They LOVED the Holden/Vauxhall Monaro VXR, but mocked the Pontiac GTO, and it's the exact same car!!

Everyone on WF donate a dollar, we can buy a Land Rover, do our own test vs all the Jeeps, cj yj tj and jk, then put it on the youtube. then we trash the land rover and drive over it in the credits. we also send it to top gear

Ok, before I got my jeep i was looking at every vehicle that is "like" a jeep. FJs, Land rovers, ect....

there are some good deals on rovers, but after doing some research i guess they have some of the worse reliability issues ever. glad i found me jeep =)

the guys on top gear hate american cars of any description. mind you, the guy in the clip above richard hammond bought one a couple of years ago a gto i'm sure.
and jeremy clarkson had a gt40. they only go with the old stereotype that american vehicles are fuel guzzlers and can't take bends or corner very well.
unless they are in a porsche, ferrari, lambo, bentley all cars suck!.
they are prats.

They did admit to liking the ZR-1, CTS-V and Challenger they had on the American special. And they're fans of the Mustang, if not particularly complimentary of it. Jeremy liked the SRT-10 Viper and Z06 Vette as I recall.

well, it was grudgingly said but at the end they said they weren't worth having, when they were making the episode when they were driving from Reno to the Salt Flats the Challenger had to be bought as they were told they would not get one on loan as they never said good things about American vehicles. James May actually loved his Cadilac but at the end of the piece in the studio they basically said would you buy one, answer no, don't waste your money on an American car. twats

Given the money, there's other cars I'd have over the CTS-V as well, but it's still the fastest production sedan in the world.
Short of a Veyron, there's no car I'd have over the ZR-1. It's the complete package. 0-60 in 3.7, 0-100 in 7, 11.3 @ 131mph in the 1/4 mile, 7:19 around the 'ring, yet still docile enough during regular driving to let your mother drive to church and comfortable enough to compete with the best GT cars in the world, all while knocking down 26mpg on the highway. All for a hell of a lot less than anything near it in terms of total package.

Don't forget, Jeremy owns a Ford GT40 and absolutely loves it, despite some rather silly mechanical issues.

He also loves the original Viper, but panned the new one (and rightfully so). He also raves on the Z06.

this is one of the most entertaining shows on tv. i could really care less what there opinions on cars are. most of the ones they think are good i wouldn't look twice at.

i'd rather have a Z06 with a turbo than a ZR1

x2^

We have a vette shop that does the older years near me, he always has about 10-12 different ones there at once, he gets them done, resells them, and buys more. makes a ton of money. the more original the more they are worth.

And honestly that goes for pretty much everything from the 60's and earlier. The only exception would be the tri5 chevys, but....an original convertible will still bring more than 85 percent of the customs. Just do what I do, take junk and make what you want out of it
