Torx or torx plus

Anyone ever use torx plus sockets? Specifically a T55 on the bumper bolts 2000 TJ.

I just got all 6 of mine out with no issue. I put penetrating oil on them every day for more than a week. Then I used the T55 with a breaker bar and carefully tried each one. I would get them to loosen one at a time and anouther week went by before the last one gave in to the oil. yes it took two weeks to get them all loose and no I didn't have any strip out. Time and oil were my friend. I never get in a hurry anymore, i guess I am old now or too lazy to want to drillout stripped torx bolts..... yep it's lazy.

So the impact driver will keep pressure on the bolt? I was going to order a snap on t55 torx bit 1/2" and a breaker bar. I am starting to hit with wd 40 already.

Don't use wd40.. Use Pb blaster.

When you strike the Impact Driver..... it forces the bit INTO the work AND twists it at the same time......

IF you can get it... KROIL is WAY better than PB.....

Mine came out lickity split. A little trick I always use is to put the bit in the bolt head then give it a couple good raps with a ball peen hammer, then put the breaker bar on and keep a good heavy downward pressure on the ratchet/ breaker bar head and slowly loosen the bolt.

penetrating oil --- wd-40 is not penetrating oil. I used a 3/8 T55 adapted to 1/2 with a very sort 2 or 3 inch extension and a breaker bar. If you shoot the oil under the tow hooks it help get oil lower in the threads. This is really basic stuff so just go do it, and take your time so don't strip anything out.

a little valve lapping compound applied into the cavity of the torx fastener can give a little more bite might be just enough to get the damn thing out intact

T40 and up I would use 1/2" drive if they are even a little stubborn

This. Kroil wins hands down!

WD40 is nothing more than a water displacement fluid, just before lubricating oils are used.

Heres a little tip. If you snap the bit and there is still teeth left on it, take it to the grinder and put a new face on it.

Thanks for all the advice. All four top bolts were removed yesterday at 4pm. Pb blaster 2-3 times a day for about a week. Knock with hammer each day. 1/2 inch snap on T55 and a 15" breaker bar. Light bar installed for now but that winch plate is calling my name.
