Tow rigs?

Just starting the search for a tow rig for the TJ for summer vacations, etc.., wondering what everyone else is using? I have to be able to seat at least 4, usually 5 on trips, but it need not be a daily driver, depending on what I find. I'm leaning towards replacing my Caddy w/ a 4.0L/6speed Commanche for a DD soon!

I was considering a hybrid/combo crew cab M-715 on the FSJ site, but thought it might be a hair ambitious for my first real "project build"!

I thought about a modest C-class RV, the wife would be less likely to object, finding a place to keep it becomes an issue though...

Anyone have any idea how long of a trailer can be bumper towed if the weight is kept reasonable? I'm thinking along the lines of a WJ, full size van, etc, where a gooseneck isn't an option..? Just an idea..

it would depend on the tow vehicle and weight. i've seen 20' flatbeds but im sure they make bigger. the weight is the biggest issue; it just gets kinda hairy when theres a ton of weight hanging off the tail end of the tow vehicle. a bumper pull trailer tends to get more sway also. if the weight was reasonable and it was built with the axles properly positioned to minimize sway.....it could be as long as you're willing to pull

fwiw, some of the bigger, heavy duty non GN trailers have a pintle hitch on them.

how long of a trailer do you need? (what do you want to pull)?

ive seen some pretty big travel trailers that were bumper pull......

I picked up an '07 GMC 2500 Sierra Classic in June with the Duramax/Allison combo and LOVE it for towing! I used to tow with a 2005 Expedition with Air leveling suspension, and this makes the Expedition feel like a tired Nissan when towing. TONS of power, and I love cruising around 70 MPH at 1750 RPM's!

EDIT: I would go get a picture for you, but it is raining really hard right now!

I use a 96 F-250/350 Power Stroke (just added a Straight axle in the front to get rid of the IFS) It tows my jeep very well on an 18' flatbed trailer. I will be getting a camper soon.

I'm using a 2500HD. 6.0/4L80E/4.10s. It has plenty of grunt for one rig and trailer. Sucks on gas mileage. Get a diesel if you can. Another 6 months and I'm trading up to a Duramax/Alli combo.
