I don't use the hemi. I use the cummins. Without a doubt, you should buy the diesel. The truck market is in the crapper and it is the perfect time for you to buy any truck you could possibly think about for 10-12k less than you could even think about.

Don't settle.

Buy the cummins.

My 06 quad cab/auto/4x4 gets 19mpg as of yesterday. That's average over the tank. And I like to hear my turbo whistle. I get better fuel economy loaded than my 02 gasser gets dry. Stick with an 06 or older. You don't want the 6.7 cummins with the stupid DPF.

Yea. Any company that makes it easy to remove the cabin of your truck for easier engine maintenance earns no business from me. Kinda like the presidency. Really sad when you have to pick the lesser of 3 evils!

Agreed. My 6.7 averages about 14 mpg in the city and 12 towing. Get the 5.9 if at all possible.

Of course the 6.7 is still better than my Ford 6.0 that I had...10 in town and 8 towing.

ive got a 04 dodge 2500 5.9 diesel, and it pulls great! i also get about 22 mpg towing my trailer to the gunshows. im using a granatelli motorsports mileage master chip. my high average, if i drive carefully, is about 27.5 mpg! this was on a round trip of about 250 miles up into arkansas. this device works pretty good.anyway, dodge ram,5.9 diesel

On the regular gas dodges w/hemi go with the 06 or later if possible I have the 4 cyl shut off and average around 19mpg for the tank. and on the highway for road trips I get around 23mpgs. But if you can get the diesal I would recomend that if you have a family or extra gear get the megacab.
Have fun with your purchase.
p.s. when towing the jeep I get around 16 or 17 mpg in traffic. the hemi doesnt even notice the jeeps there!

Go for it, if you have issues, install 4.56's The Hemi likes RPM's
2500's are better tow'ers. bigger Frames, Brakes & suspensions
I love my 05' Ram 2500 4x4.

I had an 04 RAM with the Hemi in it for a year or so. Used to tow my heep beautifully. Probably averaged about 13 towing and 16 not depending on how bad I was on the go pedal.

Now I'm in the market for either an Excursion with the 7.3 or an older suburban with the 5.9.

had an 04 1500 dodge quad 4x4 with the hemi. towed the jeep just fine. I recall getting. 10-12mpg towing that was down I-75 from KY to NC and back. So lots of big hills. With not towing I got around 19 on the highway and I would guess 16 in town give or take. Now have an 04 hemi durango, tows better than the 1500 and gets better mpg doing it. Go figure.
