Trail rash

or desert pinstriping.

What do you do about it ?

Is it a "badge of honor" for you, or do you rub 'em out as soon as you get home from the trail ?

If you rub 'em out, what product(s) do you use, what have you found effective ?

Do you pre-wax ? I've heard that if you have a good coat of wax before you go out, the scratches wipe right off.

Umm... I know this is a jeep related forum. I know that it goes against the saying that if it ain't dirty....blah blah blah.

But back when I cared I waxed the crap out of my jeep. Still do on my wifes jeep. I strip everything off the paint with the appropriate clay bar and Meguiars Final Inspection. I then do about 3 coats of Gold Class with a microfiber round pad and a microfiber cloth to remove the wax. I don't prefer a carnuba afterwards or a sealant. I leave the gold class to shine and just start all over when it starts to wear.

Tree branches usually run away. I think I have some good pics of my junk real shiny.

Depends on if it went through to the primer or metal. Sometimes a light rubbing compound / polishing compound followed up by a good wax or finish does wonders, even with nasty scratches.

I'd say it's probably the same.

I like the idea, I'm just not sure if I'm ready for that "look" yet.

Depends on the forest, I would say. I know in the northwest coastal areas the forests get a lot of rain and the branches are softer and don't scratch the paint as much as leave residue. Sometimes the sticky stuff they leave is worse than a scratch.

The creosote bushes in the Mojave are very unforgiving, dry and scratchy.
