Trailer Requirements

Does anybody know if there is a minimum engine size required for a Jeep to pull a trailer? I'm not talking any heavy duty pulling...just a small trailer for carrying household items (boxes, lawn mowers, appliances, etc.).

Thanks

not that i'm aware of. the 2.5 will haul things around town just fine, you might run into some power issues if you go highway, but jeeps are only rated to haul like 2000 lbs anyway.

No- no minimum-
what you need to be more aware of is trailer weight, and tongue weight-and what exactly that bumper can hold.

too much weight will make for a very bad day indeed.

Lightweight trailers are good-- but watch that load. It adds up quick. Theres nothing like trying to stop a 2000 pound jeep hauling a 2500 pound load.

For sure! I got rid of gthe trailor used with my Dakota and bought the one I have now because it has a short tongue and the trailor is only about 10 ft including the tongue. Ever try to back a 20 footer with a short wheel base? Takes talent.

I`l do you one better-
ever try and haul two 1956 chevy 210 station wagons on a single 4 wheel trailer with a grand cherokee?

thats about 4 times what should be on there...and I was behind it-- mom an dad driveing . Once up to 55 the trailer started that gentle swaying, that turned into something only seeing it could describe-- everytime that trailer would jam left or right, I could see moms face, or dads face...and mom was not a happy camper-- dad have brusies on his arm for weeks where she was beating on him .....pop had the brakes locked the whole time....too much weight, it just wouldnt stop. Its as close to jack knifeing as you could possibly get-- that trailer drug the entire jeep sideways both left and right for 50 yards...fast. People dove off the road...it took up both lanes.

In dads words--- "never again". moms words are unprintable- very bad indeed.
