Trailering the YJ

As part of my move I am planning to trailer the YJ up to WA. In dealing with Penske while the web site allowed me to reserve the trailer, the detailed information shows that my 31's won't fit on the carrier.

I still have the stock steelies. So do I just go out a buy a couple of crapper 215x70x15's and have them mounted up and install them on the front for the trip?

I used Penske when I moved from Chicago to Ohio and I have 33's on my Jeep. The tire straps should fit wth your 31's, they barely fit my 33's but I also bought some heavy duty tow straps from Home Depot as added security for front & back of the Jeep.

Talk with one of the service mgrs at the local pick-up point to see if they have a trailer on site that you can test fit your Jeep on.

Yes, you should be able to find a couple used ones cheap at a tire shop.

maybe go to the junkyard and get 4 of those solid spare tires! those things never get used and you don't have to worry about inflating them...

Temp spares are only rated to about 55MPH and yes, they do go flat. I doubt that they would hold up at all.

You should be fine strapping those 31's to the dolly.

aaaaah, I misunderstood the intention.... I thought he was simply trying to get the jeep to fit on a flat-type trailer and the tires he had on were too wide for the trailer width. Wasn't thinking a tow dolly. my bad...
