Train horns?

I've been looking at hornblasters.com and I think I'm gonna buy this horn: Conductor's Special Model 232 Train Horn Kit .. does anyone know if this is a good horn? I want it to be extremely loud. Is this the best bang for my buck?
also, is there a way to hook it up to my steering wheel's horn? I want to take out the stock horn and put this horn in its place. so far I've only seen train horns with a seperate button (like auxiliary lighting switches) that are mounted somewhere else in the vehicle that is convinient to the owner while the existing horn stays in place.

Why? They are illegal in many states and you're not only scaring the hell out of the person you are intending the honk them at, but everyone else within a 1/8 mile of you.
Just don't.

lol well all you have to do is find the wire that hooked to your stock horns and run that to the trigger relay to your new horns.

Ole lady has a set on her truck to move the bike riders out of her way lol

OK, so what happens when you blow your horns and scare someone enough that they lose control of their car? Or you blow them next to someone and damage their ear drums? Or give an elderly person a heart attack? Do you really want to risk a lawsuit because you wanted something that has no purpose other than "look at me"?

Maybe think about those around you and not just yourself.

Hey man, I did this to my chevy with a boat horn, like ones for huge yachts. Haahha, I had to mount the horn on the undercarriage it was so big. But you should just be able to unplug or uncwire the stick horn or horns( mine has 2) and then depending on the wires, just splice the end if the wires tht go to the steering wheel, splice the new horns wires and twist together and wrap in electrical tape and then mount the new horn somehow. And you should be good. And to the guy tht recommended not doing it, just dnt put your negative opinion in, that is basically the reason we put bigger horns on, to scare the sh!t outta people. Yes were sick and twisted but we find it amusing! good luck man, let me know if you need anymore help.

And again mr sinister, not trying to be negative like you but "omg what happens if your offroading and you roll over and it kills the passenger in your jeep" omg do you really want a lawsuit just cuz you wanted to take you vehicle offroad to show off?! Omg! Point is, just don't be a worry wart! I havnt seen many studies about people getting hurt or dying from big horns. come on man happy thoughts!

So potentially causing a car accident is funny? Potential ear damage is funny? I'll laugh my ass off when you get a ticket and a work order from a cop that wasn't as amused by your horns as you are. THAT'S funny.
How is it a negative opinion? It's illegal, pointless, careless and stupid, period. Have a little respect for those around you. But then again, common courtosey isn't so common anymore, is it?
There are plenty of legal horns that are louder than they need to be out there.

If that's your justification for doing this then wow. Just wow. There are accidents, then there are unnecessary risks for no other point than "wow look at me!!"

Jeez people! These ARE made for cars, trucks, etc, I doubt putting this horn on your vehicle is going to cause deaths!

I say if you want it, get it! You can unplug your stock horns and wire in the compressor for the airhorn and then it'll work with your steering wheel horn button.

I've vacationed in Philippines for years and if you've ever been there I'm sure you've had Jeepney horns blaring in your ears over an over. So, just to remind me of my family, friends I've got in Philippines last time I was there I bought an actual Jeepney horn and have it installed on my Jeep. And so far I haven't killed anyone with it.

Killing your passenger may not be illegal...but train horns are.......if you want to blow them off in the hills, OK, but I would not use it as your daily horn to honk, that’s why most have a separate button for them.........

And they ARE illegal, obnoxious, pointless and have no business on public roads. It's unsafe, period. You can do whatever the hell you want to your Jeep, but if it ends up involving someone else in a bad way, it's your rear that's liable.

I just reread the data sheet and it says it is DOT approved, so they are not real train horns, just loud horns.........

They sound like semi horns.....

32 actually, and it still doesn't change the fact that they are illegal.

The hardest part will be trying to find somewhere to mount it! I just went out and took a picture of where mine is. That one you're planning on getting will take up even more room!

yeah I've heard that's usually the hardest obstacle to climb when installing horn kits. I'm thinking that I'll be able to mount it where my previous stock horn was but I don't know if I'll have enough room.

And when you're sharing public roads with illegal and potentially dangerous equipment with myself and others, then it does become everyone's problem. If you want to do it out in the woods by yourself, knock yourself out. Do it on a public road and I hope you get a nice, fat ticket. Jeepers already get enough hassle without undue BS attention grabbing nonsense like this.

There you have it. NOT train horns, no matter what they call them. There is a BIG difference. You want semi-style horns, cool, they are completely legal. But the full on 150+ decibel train horns have no place on a vehicle driven on public roads.

I'll put up a picture of the ticket as soon as I get one, until then I plan on scaring everyone in sight with my new shiny horn kit and laughing my ass off with every honk.. I bet you were 17 once too.. c'mon man live a little! after all, jeeps should be FUN - lighten up!

I am not sure where they are legal and not. I have gone to a Home Depot a couple of times in the past 3 months and once in a while this guy in a big pick up truck comes through the parking lot right up near the store and blows this load ass train horn and scares the crap out of everyone in the area. People yell at him and he laughs and drives off. I think he is a dick head and would like to shove that horn up his butt and then blow it. Just my opinion of the things.

Mr sinister if your going to be a bum just get out of the thread. I HATE ppl Tht are negative and I hate to be like this to you, but a horn is just as unnecessary as offroading to other ppl. The man has the money to do it and if he likes it then shove off. Like a I said I had a huge yacht horn in my Silverado 2500 and blasted plenty of ppl without any thing as a "harm" done to them. It may have scared them but did not cause an accident. And if you get so scared tht you swerve drastically enough to cause an accident, maybe you should stick to the bus. And just cuz it's illegal does not mean there is a good chance you will get cited for it, just means they are allowed to. So hey man have fun living by the law! And maybe you shouldn't have a jeep if you follow the law, because a lot of offroading is illegal as well. But tht doesn't stop most if us! (the ones tht have the big
Loud horns tht scare you!)

I was, when I was 17. I'm assuming you are 17? Sorry, scaring the shit out of unsuspecting strangers on public roads is not fun in my book. It's a good way to get your Jeep messed with or your ass kicked by someone who didn't think it was so funny, though.
I have a 55 Chevy Hotrod, big nasty cam, full length headers and dumped flowmasters. It's loud, but I don't go around revving it at people for no reason trying to scare them. I like heavy metal music and every car I've owned has has a nice system in it, but I don't go around blaring it all the time because of common courtesy. Not everyone want to hear it. I like having fun, but there is a place and time for it.
If the horns are DOT approved, great, I have zero problem with it. If you get your jollies from honking your horn for no reason at random people, whatever.
I read "train horns" and I interpreted it as REAL train horns (there are people who do run the REAL deal on their trucks). THAT is what I have the problem with. If you just want loud semi-truck style horns to honk at random people, again, whatever. It's childish and pointless, but we can all be accused of that at some point.

Do as you wish. Its your jeep. I am curious tho, why would you want to spend 500 bucks on a horn that money could be used on a number of other things

Tell you what, how about if you don't like what I have to say, DON'T READ IT. A question was posed on a PUBLIC forum. By doing that, you're welcoming in all sorts of OPINIONS, even ones that differ from yours!! If you're not prepared to hear differing opinions, DON'T POST THE QUESTION. A horn IS necessary, most states will fail you on your inspection if yours doesn't work. Loud horns do have a purpose, TRAIN horns do not except on trains.
