Your question isn't clear. What's wrong with your current 5-speed transmission in the first place?
You can put almost any transmission in there, if you really want to bad enough. But there is no point that I can think of to put the OEM 6-speed in (or to have 6 speeds to begin with, but that's another matter) in place of a properly working AX-15 or NV-3550. I'd sooner see a 4-speed granny-gear transmission or 5-speed with more gear spread (i.e. difference between 1st gear and top gear ratios) than a transmission with more gears that are closer together.
badboydeafjeep, my apology in advance for cutting into your post, but I am new to owning a use 1997 Wrangler. I changed the oil and notice that by (right behind ) the oil drain plug there was something missing. I am assuming that there should be a transmission shield of some sort. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Where would I get that part?
