Transfer case problem?

The other day, I was pulling up to my house, and I put it in neutral and shut it off before I was stopped. As I coasted to a stop I heard a clunk, clunk, clunk that slowed as the Jeep slowed. I am pretty sure the output on the transfer case is bent, because there is some fluid on the underside of the tub and usually a drip hanging from the output of the case. It happened from breaking a rear u-joint and the driveline swung around. How immediate of a problem is this? How would I go about fixing it? I know it probably depends on exactly what is messed up. Is that noise related to the bent part? Thanks

It might be... but if the tail housing is bent, the tail shaft might be bent as well, which can cause all kinds of issues inside the case. Are you sure the fluid isn't just from a bad seal?

are you sure the clunk wasnt a u joint?

I don't think the clunk was u-joint, I just had a new one put in when it was in the shop, and the CV driveshaft has new u-joints too. I'm not sure if it is leaking from a bad seal, I should use a dial indicator and check the output for trueness. If its not bent should it be absolutely zeroed or is there a little play in it either way?

The stock tail housing wouldn't bend. It would just crack if it was overstressed. It's not the strongest material in the world.

I wouldn't go to all that trouble. Just unbolt your rear driveshaft from the axle and put your case in neutral. Then get under there and spin your driveshaft to see if you can year or feel anything that is keeping is from properly rotating. Replacing an output shaft isn't too hard of a job. It would give you practice for doing an SYE in the future.

I already have a slip yoke eliminator installed. Would I just do the same thing, unbolt and check for hesitation in the revolutions?

Yeah, same thing. Just so that you can rotate that output shaft to see if it hangs up or you can tell it's bent.

Ok cool thanks 1BLKJP. Now all I gotta do is find the time to check it. Would you say it is an immediate problem if it is bent?

I have cracked and split a TCase due to dshaft failure. It's not a fun thing to mess with. I'd say that you'll probably want to fix it as soon as you can.

When you drive normally do you feel any new vibes while at speed?
