Transporting a Hard Top

Hello!

So tomorrow I'm going to pick up my Hard Top, Its 1 piece with top half hard doors. I've got to drive on the turnpike to get to it and back and all I've got is an old (1995 I think) F-150.

So my question is, Have any of you ever transported a hard top and doors win a pickup truck? If so what wold be the best way to do so?

I was thinking of having the tailgate against the front and then strapping it down, or strapping it upside down with the tailgate towards the front.

Any and All input is appreciated... well unless you tell me not to get a hard top

Thanks!

You should just take the doors & roof off your Jeep & put the Hardtop/doors on to get it home. No worried about the 30 degree weather

I assume you have a soft top on it now right? Why not just drive it to where you need to go, remove the soft top and drive home with the hard top on? It is really easy to get the soft top and rails off, and you would be able to transport it home inside the jeep once you got the hard top on - you would just have to put the metal parts a little sideways.

Or, you could just bundle up with a snowsuit and go topless as was suggested... you know you wanna

The soft top hardware would fit inside with out poking anything?

I've got this hardware: Rugged Ridge 13510.01 - Rugged Ridge Factory Soft Top Replacement Hardware for 88-95 Jeep® Wrangler YJ - Quadratec

Been there, done that

EDIT: The guy said he wasn't sure if he has all thes crews for the latches on the window, so that may be bad to show up and not be able to put the top on D:

Ahh, well that might be an issue if he doesn't have all the stuff... but if you could secure some hardware before you go, I think it would be the easiest and safest way for you to do it. But yeah, once you take the framework off, you could easily fit it inside your Jeep with the hard top on.

Or you could trade for a TJ and leave both tops on all the time

Lol, yep... my soft top is inside my Jeep right now... granted, it can't be up when the hard top is on, but it is folded down and fits quite nicely inside with the hard top on. Makes life a little easier when swapping (Although, to be honest, I have not had the hard top off this Jeep yet... Spring will be here soon though lol).

Do you have the little push button things on your soft top hardware to collapse it down & fold it up? I just found out mine had it a month ago. It may fit.

Hmm. I know what ryt2112 is talking about when he says fold it down. Because i've seen TJ's with the roof folded down & not too long ago i pulled next to a YJ with it's roof folded down in the back like that. So i think ours can do it. I'm just not sure how? I have the Pavement Ends Fliptop roof or whatever its called. I can collapse & fold my black cage thing.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that you can not fit both on with stock YJ hardware.

It actually wouldn't fit upside down so we had it back end sticking off the tailgate (it was too wide to go between the wheel wells) and strapped the hell out of it

I don't have any pics from the transport cause I lost my phone for a couple of days

Heres the pic I took today, I'll post more pictures when I update my build thread

(the doors are the same color as the top I just haven't restored the top yet)

I hear Mother's Back to Black works good as well...you can pick it up for a few bucks at your local Wal-Mart.
