Tread lightly/Goodyear rebate

So when I joined tread lightly a few weeks ago, there was a $100 rebate offer for a set of Goodyear tires. I even printed the form and have it sitting in front of me and it clearly says "offer valid until 12/31/12".

However, NOW that I finally got my tread lightly welcome packet in the mail there is no mention of this rebate, it's not on their website anymore, and furthermore I did not get a redemption code to use on the rebate form so that I can mail this in before the deadline.

Anybody know what the crap is going on with this?

Tread Lightly - Goodyear Rebate for Tread Lightly! Members

I don't think there's ever been a link I could find on their page. Look at the 8.5"x11" Welcome Letter. You should see the codes they reference on there.

Yeah the member number is at the top of the welcome letter, and even highlighted. But there is no redemption code for this rebate form anywhere to be found.

And, on the back of the welcome letter where it lists membership perks...the Goodyear rebate is not listed.

contact Goodyear, they'll fill you in on any details.

I would start here;
https://www.goodyear.com/en-US/company/contact-us

Or... you can ask us?

Here's the 411.

The Goodyear Tire Discount is on hold for this partnership year (note- our fiscal year runs Oct 1 - Sept 30, like the agencies). Partner agreements are negotiated each year unless otherwise specified, and as such... our agreement with Goodyear changed. So what does that mean? If your welcome letter has the codes, then you are eligible. If your welcome letter does not... then unfortunately, your membership (while GREATLY appreciated) does not include eligibility. The form I believe you are referring to (and linked to above) is on our website as the method in which the rebate can be collected, not as a guarantee of eligibility.

We realize that this may be a bit of a PITA. We have numerous sources through which we advertise membership and membership benefits, but the membership page on the website will be the most up-to-date and we have to defer to that. Not defer to the Goodyear form page, but rather to the list of specific benefits, which was changed earlier this month (Oct 6, I believe).

Apologize for the confusion, but thank you for the support. You have been entered into a drawing for a set of BFG tires, and while we realize its not a full consolation... Its the situation.

Copy the screen from the link above, then give tread lightly the opportunity to make good on their discount offer conditional upon membership - if they continue to refuse (ask for it in writing), file a civil suit for breach of contract in the amount of 100$ + the enrollment costs and any legal fees incurred. That link, your welcome packet, and the flier are enough for just about any small claims judge in America. Find others and you can make it class action

They are performing an illegal action. You can not advertise an offer, then say sorry that doesnt apply to you after you pay, while the offer is STILL enticing membership.

I agree, this is a bait and switch and shameful that treadlightly would behave this way. I joined specifically because of this offer with the date good through Dec 31st and now they silently take it away?

TL, I'll be calling tomorrow to cancel my three year membership and seeking a refund. If not provided, I'll charge back the credit card payment.

Well.. update: I did manage to get a valid redemption code from Goodyear and I have submitted my rebate form with all the required details. I will see whether they honor it or not. I believe that I should give them an opportunity to be fair before making a fuss about this. We shall see what they do...

As far as "you can ask us" goes...I did ask Tread Lightly and still have gotten no response whatsoever. It was a Goodyear representative that finally helped me out...or at least, tried to. Outcome awaiting..

Interesting response on something we are trying to make good on. The Goodyear page linked above was not connected to our membership pages (on which the GY offer had been deleted when we received the notice), and as soon as we were made aware that the page still existed, we removed it.

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
There is no bait and switch, but so many people are joining Tread Lightly! that we exceeded the budget Goodyear had for TL! this year and they …..GOODYEAR pulled the rebate from us without one day’s notice. We are busy looking for a new tire manufacturer to partner with us to replace the discount previously provided by Goodyear, but do not have one yet.

I am not sure who you talked to. First I had heard of the issue was your post, to which we answered. But, I do apologize for the inconvenience. Again, this was NOT our call, it was made by Goodyear and the rebate is handled by Goodyear, not us. It was simply a member perk.

Yes, all parties should be notified of problems and the responsible parties should have an opportunity to make it "right" before any escalation, as I mentioned.

No, not really. What it is, though, is a legal response to the contract offer you made.
Perhaps you mean in a reasonable amount of time, because I went to that site after you posted in this thread.

If you make an offer, like every customer gets a hat, and you run out of hats - but DID NOT specify while supplies last (your flier did not), you are now legally required to buy the rest of the days customers hats. Its contract law. You offered a contractual agreement, and as you wrote it, interpretation benefits the signee, i.e. your customer. As it is, you owe every person enlisting from now to the end of the year 100$ reduction in price on a set of tires. If you dont pay that, you move into "breach of contract", owing now not only the 100$ but also a refund. You cqn TRY to blame it on someone else, as children often do, or step up and acknowledge that you were shafted by goodyear (which I doubt), but that you will not pass this onto your customers, and will rather seek legal council on holding Goodyear to their agreement. Your legal folks know this (as well as GY), which is why I simply do not believe this.

She is right, it is NOT a bait and switch. You aren't switching it for anything, you are just not doing what you agreed to do. It was a contract violation, if it continues or if you don't correct it for ALL new applicants, it is fraud.

Again, pass the buck. Doesn't matter or help, you are still on the hook, as you used the promotion to entice membership.

TreadLigtly (the WF member) -I hope you will be able to appreciate that I have nothing against you, or your orginization. I don'tintend to detract from your membership, I actually like some of the things yall do. I must, however, speak out against wrongs I see, regardless of who commits them, in hopes that all parties may find suitable resolution. I have a very strong set of morals, and the top is that the end does not justify the means, so although I am glad you guys exist, I have to say you are wrong here.

Send a check for 100$, fixed. But it isn't that easy, now is it...

How did you get a redemption code? Goodyear customer service number or local installer?

FYI, I called and left a message for the TL director of membership yesterday and have yet to receive a call back.

You won't get a response from TL. I contacted them via their website Monday and haven't heard a thing to this day. I contacted Goodyear via email and was able to track down a redemption code, although the rep. did say they had pulled the rebate and that Goodyear "should still honor it" but that it's not for certain.

Like I said, I'm going to give the parties involved the opportunity to do right before the feces hits the fan.

Hmm yeah I was about to join for this rebate as well since I'm about to get the 265/70/17 duratracs for my rig. Bummer. Looks like TL and GY are on the hook for this contractually or they will be class action'd and most likely TL will lose because they did not have a 'while supplies last' stipulation on their original offer. Pretty much contract law 101 open and shut case I'm afraid.

Hmmm, this is not good.

I joined TL last month to get the discount. I bought my tires last week and haven't gotten around to trying for the discount.

I'll have to look into it.

Our membership page (which lists the benefits and perks of memberships) was updated immediately after the request from Goodyear. Because the rebate page that was linked to above (which you referenced) was not directly linked to that membership page, it was unfortunately overlooked. The link here made us aware of that, and we removed it immediately.

Nope. Its not that easy.

We appreciate the support. We are not taking this personally, but are trying to get this sorted out. Please be patient with us. A number of our staff are out of the office this week for an industry trade show, hence the delay in response to attempts to contact us. I have been monitoring this to try and be available, and have been as open and clear as I can be.

I'm subscribed to this thread now too. I joined last week for the discount, now I find this out. How about membership refunds for everyone who joined for the Goodyear discount that was apparently falsely advertised.

JC people.

I really don't want to paint with broad strokes here, but this is EXACTLY the reason that attorneys get cast in such a bad light. You are really going to give advice on how to sue an organization that does good in your community and makes it possible in some cases for you to keep off-roading? There is letter of the law and there is spirit of the law -- I'd say here we should concentrate on the spirit of the law. There was originally an agreement between TL and Goodyear...then there wasn't. I would be VERY surprised to find that the verbiage on TL's site was premeditated, written by the laughing president of TL twisting the ends of his mustache.

And angry "yo, where my mf money at" posters -- is the $100 that big of an issue? That's two tanks of gas, or a trip to the grocery store (ie: not enough money to get angry over). Plan and save, plan and save. You don't put it on a credit card unless you can pay it off that month. Plan for the full purchase, save for the full purchase, and then treat the rebate as a windfall. It's sad that we've reached the point where this kind of "advice" sounds like "get off my lawn" instead of the common sense that it is.

Back to the folks with the J.D.: please don't sue the little girl down the street for selling "Lemonade" if she makes it with Countrytime instead of real lemons.

I bet you're not affiliated in some way with TL, and yes for some of us 2 tanks of gas or a trip to the grocery store are a very big deal !

Must be nice to have it so well that $100 doesn't matter.

The least TL could have done is put a notice on the website. "Notice: Goodyear rebate no longer valid" would have been nice. Instead, it's just silently pulled.

TL is a great organization. But they have these perks for the purpose of increasing membership. Well, allowing this to happen isn't a good way to keep members.

Ok guys, I went ahead and did the following, I signed up for treadlightly before buying my duratracs, America's tire had a $100 rebate and thought another $100 from TL would be great, college student, poor as poor gets, and read this that TL is no longer doing the GY rebate, and well to me it wasn't fair and also did not help my situation, so I emailed GY directly, explained my situation as to what was going on and how this rebate was an incentive for me to buy A set of 4 GY instead of my original BFG, I got an email the following morning, from a Barbara CS for GY and she was more than glad to help, she not only emailed me the rebate form but also the redemption code, so my point of view, no need to harass TL, just find a way to work around this inconvenience, I am now very happy with GY as they did not even hesitate to help me with the redemption code and rebate form.

Thanks, I figured after reading that it wasn't TLs fault, there's no point at going at them, and as mentioned, being broke as a joke, I had to at least try something, a lot easier to deal with than to accuse TL for something they can't control.

I think there's more than two of us interested in the outcome. TL also offered a membership refund, so let's see what Goodyear says.
