Two door or four door

I'm sure this question has been asked before. I test drove both this weekend and found the four door unlimited to drive better. I think both drove great when going straight. Very nice ride, better than I thought it was going to be, I was impressed. The two door doesn't seem as solid, it is over responsive to turns. Just feels different. Granted I could save money by going with the two door Sahara over the unlimited but what will I sacrifice? Will I be happy or will I regret not going for the unlimited? The sales person tried to tell me I would get used to the way the two door handles. Is this true?

Please see the "2 door vs. 4 door" thread. Lots of good info. Sorry I can't link it for you, don't know how!

I will be using it as a daily driver. Hope to get it to the beach a few times. Enjoy the open air feel and four wheel drive in the winter. Usually just me and the wife, my kids are grown so we won't have many passengers.

I opted for the 2 door, since it is only me and wife, most of the time. It is going to come down to what do you prefer, 2 or 4 doors.

If it were me I would opt for the 4 door. Since it will be your daily driver the ride will be better with the 4 door. Its also nice to have the extra room in the back seat for people, luggage, ect. Personally I don't like the look of the 4 door, but I understand the utility and need for the room.

Some if the things I like about my 2dr are other people's complaints. Like the responsive steering, I love the turning radius I've gotten that thing into some tight parking spots and the short wheel base has gotten me cleanly through obstacles on trails that I've seen others in longer vehicles rub or bottom out on.

On the other hand the 4dr as so many have pointed out is a smoother ride and a little more stable on uneven ground. I've never had to parallel park one but it can't be that bad they're not behemoths. What's the difference? 20"?

I will say this, when wheeling, there are pros and cons to both. Break over angles have killed me several times where as my two door/shorter wheel base buddies didn't have an issue. During hill climbs, however, the longer wheel base proved to be a definite advantage with less risk of flopping backwards. As with all decisions, there are tradeoffs. It seems as if a list of pros/cons would be in order!!

A vehicle with a longer wheelbase will generally have better road manners and be a bit less 'twitchy' than one with a short wheelbase. I'm planning to get a 4 door for that reason, though I personally think the 2 door looks better.

We have a 2008 4 door and just got a 2013 2 door that wife drives around town and loves it If I had to pick one for our main vehicle I would pick the 4 door

There is no right or wrong answer. It all depends on what your needs/wants are...

My humble perspective follows. I'm a traditionalist. Traditional Jeeps were always 2 doors. My wrangler is a toy that I bought for my intended purposes. I don't need 4 doors. I like the look of the 2 door over the 4 door. I prefer the smaller footprint of the 2 door over the 4 door. I prefer the sporty, faster, lighter, shorter 2 door over the 4 door. My Wrangler is my 2 door four wheeled motorcycle...

Your choice, your decision...

That's my story. Enjoy your Wrangler.

Cheers/B

A few years ago I would have said 2 door no brainer...but the 4 door does have its advantages. Judging what you describe your use would be, its a good bet the 4 door will fit your needs...particularly if you have little (or big) monsters to lug around.

it seems like you may have already answered your question. you like the 4 door better in daily driving situations, so if you can afford it then get it. the winter snow and the beach are both places where the longer 4 door will perform better than a 2 door. not that you will have trouble with a 2 door, but the 4 door will give you more control.
