Unlimited Hard Tops?

I honestly think that Wrangler Unlimited hard tops just look like hummers and people get them just for the name Jeep. If u want a true jeep get a 2 door soft top or even a 2 door hard top just keep it original. The only reason someone should have an unlimited is if they have a family. I know im ranting but what are your thoughts?

To each their own. I have a JKUR. I'm unmarried and 31 years old with no kids. I use it as a dd but also for work and the extra space is great. I also do lots of camping and road trips and the exta space allows me to pack a lot more gear. I also frequently ride with friends and the convenience of four doors is nice. Lastly, I'm sure I'll get crap for it from the purists but I prefer the look of the four door, but I have no issues with the two doors. So again I say, to each there own

This, plus when you start buying my toys, you can have a say in what I get.

People have numerous reasons for getting what they want. When you are willing to pay for my stuff, I'll let you have a say in what I should buy.

Since the early days of automobiles manufacturers have been making "coupes" and "sedans" of many models. Some people have been fans of the two doors for various reasons. Some people have been fans of four doors for various reasons. I bet that in 1932 folks who bought Ford Coupes put down folks who bought Ford Sedans. It's the way of people. I've never understood it. Personally, I like the two door Jeep. Someone else likes the four door. Big deal...

Buy what you want for the reasons you want, I'll buy what the hell I want. Why doe some people seem to think we all have to be alike? Sort of like the kids that all try to be different and end up looking the same. Do what makes you happy.

Me thinks you're a troll.

This a a community of people who like to share thoughts and ideas on how to improve our Jeeps and things we've done and will be doing. So glad you dropped in to share your narrow minded opinion of what a real Jeep is.

I wanted a 4 door for the added cargo space, most of the time my back seats are folded down. I wanted a wrangler for a while to replace my full size silverado as a daily driver. I dont tow or haul anything that often so the 4 door works for me. 33, single and no kids.

Opinions are like A*******. everyone has one.

every single time something new comes out there will be people making ignorant posts like this. SQUARE HEADLIGHTS?!?! should be illegal! COIL SPRINGS!! blasphemy! you dont like it? then dont buy it. what right do you have to decide what a "true jeep" is?

I am a 2 door owner, but from a wheeling standpoint, the 4 door's have an advantage.

The 4dr doesn't bother me one bit, I'd buy one if I needed it. I do however hate the color matched tops

I think rolls should buy whatever they want to buy. Although I'm with the dude above me. I don't care for the color matched tops and fenders.

The color matched tops and fenders ( on JKUs) don't look bad on a big, jacked up Jeep. In stock form, it kinda looks a bit goofy to me.

As far as hard tops go, I have one for my LJ and my wife's JKU. Mine spends most of the time topless, and I run a soft top on hers in the summer. Come winter, the hardtop with a cargo rack goes on. With a family of 4 and a german shepherd, that's the only way to take a vacation and not be limited to a backpack each. Besides ... Hummers copied the Jeep, not the other way around.

I like both the 2dr and a 4 dr. I owned a '97 2dr and currently have a '15 4 door. There is alot more room behind the seat in the 4 door. Probably has a smoother ride as a daily driver with a longer wheelbase. I've got dual tops and dual doors so I can go hard top/full doors in the winter and soft top/half doors in the spring - fall. If I lived somewhere warm year around I would have just ordered soft top with half doors. I don't understand when people just get hard top only. To me going topless is one of my favorite things about the Wrangler. And, I'd be to worried about being away from home and having an unpredictable storm with my hard top left at home.

BTW, I also prefer black fenders and hardtop over the color match.

I only have a hard top but would love to have had a soft top as well. For me, it's a security issue. I love to fish and carry a lot of very expensive fly rods and reels, much of which I leave in the car as I fish. Since this usually happens in the summer, the ideal time for a soft top, I would have a hard time leaving my equipment susceptible to theft. So, it's a hard top only for me.

Yep, mine's specialized for hunting with lots of associated "stuff" carried in it, including recovery gear.

So, it's hardtop all the way for me, in the TJ "shorty" configuration. It gets around the woods deftly.

That said, I do really like the looks of the longer Jeep hardtops. In my opinion, Jeep's expanded on a Classic with real Class.

For me it was a no brainer...I have had Jeeps for a long time purchased my first one back in '94.....my current favorite is my '04 TJ 2 dr.....my "back up" is the wife's "old" '12 JK. She needed 4 dr for hauling the Grandkids around...and she wanted Blue with a Hardtop, last year that pretty much meant Polar so we got it....probably as much as a Grand Cherokee but she likes it better. In her mind it is still a Jeep and if Mommas Happy my life is easier!!

Here they are...each has their own use/ purpose...kinda like tools in a tool box

You may want to consider getting a Harken 4 point lift for about a $130.00. It makes taking off and putting on a hard top a one person operation. Check Amazon or Quadratech

This post is just asking for trouble. I don't like colored hard tops either but clearly the option is popular enough for Jeep to continue offering it. When the next gen Wrangler comes out everyone who owns a JK will instantly understand what the TJ, YJ, CJ guys are saying

{lol} I have to laugh ... a while back I told my husband it was past time for me to buy a Jeep because the Hummers were starting to look good.

{snort} "Keep it original"? Then you better reach back and get a 1940 Bantam, Willys & Ford prototype (yup, pulled that from a thread in the newbie section), 'cause they were the only "originals". EVERY model since then has changed, year after year, piece after piece, and I'm 100% that will continue year after year going forward. Get used to it.

The GREAT thing about Jeep, IMO, is that there are so many models and variations from which to choose, and that they've been able to maintain that variety for so long. Even those non-Wrangler models, well, they're not for me, but if someone else likes 'em I'm glad they're available.

~~~~~~
Personally, mine will be a Wrangler Unlimited 4-door Hard Rock with color-matched hard-top, automatic transmission, with all the frilly "girly" electronics, leather seats, and convenience features. Hubby's on the other hand is a Wrangler Unlimited 2-door (yes, a 2-door unlimited; 2006 might have been the last year they made those? if not they stopped soon afterwards I think), black hard/soft-top combo, manual transmissions, manual door locks, manual windows, etc.
Both of our Jeeps will go off-roading, and truth be told he says mine might even be {gasp} more capable than his from the start even after the mods he's already done to his. (Rut-ro, guess that means an increase in budget is due for his mod fund, eh?)
His is not at all what *I* would choose, and vice versa, but who the heck cares, he loves his and I'll love mine. :0)
