Unorthodox Uses for Jeeps

I was just curious if anyone else has ever used their Jeep for something other than it's intended purpose.

I suppose I'll start, once a year I help my dad tow his Chinese trainer for our local flight breakfast. Radial engines have a long startup procedure and for the distance it travels, it's easier to just tow it.

I used my '03 rubicon for a landscape truck...you'd be surprised how many plants can fit stacked up in the back...and pulled a trailer for soil/mulch/tools. It worked well for me until I bought a truck. (I did learn that a short Jeep is not meant for a long trailer, but a short trailer works fine...and backing the trailers in a jeep was certainly easier than in a crewcab truck)

Every year my club helps with the soap box races for disabled children.

Two seats and two steering wheels in each car. Only one steering wheel actually works.

The Jeeps tow the cars back up the hill. The smiles on the kids faces are priceless.

Love this comment.... so true

want to know if your a Jeeper, get a CJ.
Spend months sourcing parts and restoring it with the sweat of your own work,
or go out and get a Wrangler and be part of the cookie cutter Jeep crowd

To travel 90 miles between 2 cities average 70 mph. It's noisy, gets bad gas mileage, plays hell in cross winds, hard to pack a lot of stuff. But it's fun to drive. Unorthodox for what I mainly use it for.

Maybe not "unorthodox," but when I was a kid, it was quite common for jeeps to be used in the orchards for tasks that "quads" are used for now. They were (contrary to current usage) low-slung, inexpensive, simple, and with the windshield folded down, they were perfect for driving around under the fruit trees. Most of them had side-mounted pipe racks for carrying ladders or irrigation pipe. Far too expensive for that now. Most of the old ones have been pulled out from behind the barns and sold for ludicrous prices. Although, this summer, I did see one new-looking JK in town, kitted out as an orchard jeep.
