unstiching and re-installing door skins

Here is my dilima:
I have a grey soft top with grey half door uppers and I just bought a black half top with black half door uppers. I would like to have the option to swith the grey and black door upper skins (so I don't have to purchase and store another set of upper frames) The new Black skins have velcro (easy install) however the original grey skins are stitched in. Has anyone ever unstiched original skins and re-installed them by sewing (or epoxying) in velcro?

I've not read of anyone doing it, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. I'd buy another set of frames cheap from CL or ebay. From what I've read, reskinning them is quite a job.

The OEM skins weren't made to be removed. I puchased an aftermarket set that required the stock frame to be re-used and let me tell you......it was a pita! The OEM skins were a royal pain to remove even with a razor blade. I honestley don't see how you will be able to remove them while saving them to be reused. IMO you should trade your good spares complete for someone willing to give you their beat ones with good frames plus a little cash on top.
