Urgent recall notice.

Received attached notice from a dealer that I got my wrangler serviced at. I called them and they said there is no recall but they just want todo an inspection because they want to purge their inventory.
Sounds like an illegal scam. Thoughts?

I don't know about legal or illegal, but it definitely lacks class and is tacky!

I'd report that one to Chrysler...I doubt that they want fake recall notices being sent out.

I spoke to chrysler. I verified no active recalls. They spoke to the dealership which said they "just want to bring people in for a free inspection which is legal as long as they do not charge"

Google "Georgia sues Bill Heard for fake recall notices", at the very least it is deceptive advertising. You could send a copy to your State Attorney General, or arguably the FTC, False and deceptive advertising is in fact illegal.

Stuff like this causes panic in people that then go in for service and the dealer finds all these other problems that need fixing. For shame.

Well done! You'd think Chrylser would be a little more angry about one of their dealers doing such shady stuff. Gives them a bad name.

Fellow jeepers, reading this post might save your life. Chrysler issued a recall for 2005-2010 jeep grand Cherokees and 2006-2010 commanders today. An electronic / software fault causes transmission to shift into neutral without operator command. This recall does not currently include wranglers, however I did experience the problem with my 2012 Rubicon while negotiating a steep three point turn on a cliff road in Colorado last summer. I had applied the brake, shifted into reverse, looked over my shoulder and released brake, but instead of backing up the jeep went forward toward the cliff and a five hundred foot drop. I was able to apply the brake and stop in time. I then shifted into park and vehicle then shifted into reverse normally. Chrysler factory drivers were in the area for a corporate event, so I sought them out and talked with one of the drivers. He indicated that they had experienced the same problem on their Rubicons. I also met with a Chrysler Engineer at the event who promised to have the appropriate engineer contact me. I never received a call. Several weeks later I meet a couple who had experienced same problem with their Rubicon while on Black Bear Pass, which is one of the most dangerous in the area. The Jeeper's wife was in tears while they described their experience. After filing a safety complaint with Chrysler and NHTSA, and after spending hours on the phone with people in the government and Chrysler buacracy I was told there was nothing they could do for me, I asked them to talk with the Chrysler drivers but they said they were not allowed to contact them. The dealer told me that this was probably not a big enough problem and was not cost effective for Chrysler engineers to be assigned to it. I guess my purchase of a $40,000 Rubicon wasn't cost effective either. I have had many Jeeps but this is the first one that tried to kill me. However, aside from this significant flaw, this is is the most capable of the six that I have owned. The link below is today's recall. If anyone has experienced this problem please post a reply.

Tyler, I think the problem is fixable, but Chrysler doesn't seem to be interested. It is as if they don't realize how much faith we jeepers put in their vehicles. The new JKs have software that will hold the brake on if on an incline for some undefined period of time (this provides newbe time to shift manual) and then with no warning buzzer releases the brake. I have theorized that this software might have a glitch that causes my issue. In my career I managed space and medical programs. We need the same (or better) discipline in the design of the cars we drive. I too love Jeeping and spend 2-3 months on the trails each year.

But that will cut into profits. There is a reason the big 3 havent been in top ten customer satisfaction ratings in a while.

Can someone please separate the fake recall notice from the original post here and the real recall notice posted by JK Toad?

Last Nov I attempted to downshift my automatic from 4, manually selected gear, for a steep descent while in 4WL. 2013 JKR with about 1000-1200 miles at the time. Nothing happened. In somewhat of a panic I stopped and shifted to P, N, R, D etc. Two or three times I determined the transmission was in neutral even though gear 4 showed in the dash display and the paddle shifter was in D. Somehow got the trans to engage in 4 again, and rode down in 4 with HDC engaged. Scared me good.

At the bottom I was advised to turn engine off and turn ignition on and off three times without engaging the starter. This fixed the problem and it has never reoccurred, but my confidence is shaken. Dealer said they could do nothing and no error codes.
