Vegas Trip.... Little Military Help?

Ahrggggg...

Gotta make a trip to Vegas tomorrow for my Son's wedding. Last time I was there was 1968 while traveling cross country to see my brother in San Diego before he shipped off to "Nam".

Looking for anyone that has been or uses Nellis AFB. I know they have the largest BX in the Country which we will take a look at. I was also wondering if the prices at the Class 6 Shop are going to be worth going there instead of buying at a package store in town.

If anyone knows...Does Hertz rent any type of Jeep out? Gosh, I spent all day with mine with the top down here in Upstate NY. Great day here at 60 degrees, but Vegas was 92 so the temp swing will be impressive!

Any Jeep oriented Shops to look at?

Have fun. I'll be there tomorrow too for four days. I have rented a Jeep from Beverly Hills Car Rental but they also sometimes have them at Hertz and National. Hoping to score a little JK myself this time.

I am checking into it. Just upgraded to Hertz Gold Membership and I'll call them tonight and see what they can do. A new Grand Cherokee would be fine, a JKU would even be better.

Wear Shorts cause it's in the 90's out there! LOL!

Nellis' BX is a "B" store. It does have a lot, but there are a few larger ones. The BX started selling guns about 3 years ago, that's the biggest change. The class 6 store is definitely cheaper than buying downtown, but they don't have a large selection of different brands of alcohol. As far as off-road stores, there are a couple, but they are rather small. One is Custom Trucks on Boulder Highway, and 4 Wheel Parts at Tropicana and Decatur, on the northeast corner. As far as Jeep rentals, I don't know if Hertz rents them, but there are other places that do. By the way, it's supposed to be a little cool, with temps in the 70s for today and tomorrow, but back up to the 90s by the end of the week.

I was there back in 09 for a detachment. nothing like the navy paying you to stay at the Golden Nugget on Freemont. anyways, the BX is for sure worth the trip. There is also an aircraft museum on base that is pretty legit.

Welcome to Vegas. The class six's booze prices are pretty good, but some buddies have claimed to find cheaper beer off base.

Well, the trip went well. It's the first time I've been back to a base in 13 years....
WOW have things changed and stayed the same at the same time.

The BX was very good and some of the prices were great. For what I drink and my Son drinks, it was almost 50% off what we currently pay. I didn't go to the Class 6 store due to time.

Was nice to see Rifles and handguns in a BX. Love the laws in Nevada, MUCH better than here in NY state.

Weather made me feel like I was back in Saudi again. WOW was it HOT. Saw an indicated 102 degrees in the Rental Impala. How did I get stuck with THAT? I asked about a 4WD vehicle and they offered up an Escalade for the same money. Told the counter person NO Thanks.

All in all a good trip!

The JRB in Fort Worth sells guns now too. ammo prices were high before the scare, but right now they are selling pmags for non inflated prices and yesterday I saw an AR-10 for $1590.
