Hmmmm says mine was originally a 3spd automatic.

hopefully I won't get flagged for bumping to a such an old thread
but this page came up on google when I searched for jeep vin decoder.
If someone else runs into it then probably he is searching for a good
decoder too, and after spending some time googling for a decoder my suggestion would be Jeep Vin Decoder

Here's another decoder that I found earlier. It seems to give more detailed and accurate information for me. YMMV.

I just did it again and it worked this time for my 97 Jeep.
