Wear your belts!!!

Today the wife and I are driving along a backroad and up ahead I saw a jeep front wheels on the ground, rear wheels off the ground about 4 feet. Something flew out of the top of the jeep as the jeep was crashing to the ground.
As I got closer I could see that the jeep was involved in a head on collision with a Ford Contour. The female passenger in the jeep was the object I saw thrown from the jeep!!! She landed on the ground in front of the jeep and the left front wheel rolled up on her neck and shoulder area. She was not pinned and was conscious.
There was a hardtop on the jeep until the female passenger took it along with her as she exited the jeep on impact.

Please wear your belts.

Seems to me like none of the 4 belts in my Jeep work. I can pull them as suddenly and hard as I can and they dont lock. Might have to replace all mine

Good point, I had an accident in HS, slid into a ditch, planted the car on the PS front corner and everything in the car ended up on my buddys head!

There was a infant seat sitting in the middle of the road after the accident. I'm certainly glad the infant wasn't in it.

Well my first 4WD trip down a hill at Pismo dunes In 2H at night I had 60+ stuffe d animals in the back of my head and dash, We had bounced and sped to the bottom in My K-5 Blazer. But all was good because they were soft. but man a Lug wrench or mag light would have killed one of us.

Hey try hitting your brakes as you jerk your seat belt, I think that will make them lock, especially before you replace them!!

You think they lock according to whether the brake pedal is down or not? I wouldnt think so some accidents happen without the brakes being on.
I think they are just FUBARED

they are not based on hitting your brakes. there is a wieght hanging on a pivot in the seat belt assembly above your shoulder. under hard stops or starts the weight swings and activates the lock. it would work the same if you were facing down a real steep hill.

How crude!
So your saying if I park downhill and pull hard and suddenly it would lock? Hmm i hope so I wasnt looking forward to reaplcing them, although I was thinking or 3-point harnesses instead.

when your seat belts stop working get new ones too! both my fronts dont latch and i just purchased some new ones so im pretty happy about that now. After my friend rolled his blazer with me in it i decided to hurry up and replace those. Neither of us were hurt from that.

+1. I am a firm believer in the seat belt! If you are in my vehicle, it does not move until all passengers are belted up!

well dang your absolutely right my apologies jherrin215 thats what you were trying to say when you said hit the brakes. Its not about the pedal its about when the car lurches forward THATS when the seatbelts lock, and mine do.
Thanks for the tip mine are fine it seems

deffinately wear your belts. i always wear mine and i came out just fine after putting my jeep in a ditch twice. my rear brake was dragging and hit a cpl ice spots and away i went into the ditch. my rear end swong out and about met my front end lol. 1 time hit hard enough to knock the tire off bead and another time about had the jeep sitting on its side rather then wheels and both times i never got a scratch or even a bruise put it in 4 wheel and drive out of the ditch. i dont know if id have been so lucky without the seatbelt.
