I've got a weird clunking noise on the drivers side of my jeep the other day, it went away the next day when it was cold but it came back when I was driving in a lot this afternoon. And guesses on what it could be and why it's so random... Only when I'm going slow and it's warm, with no rhythm? I'm lost

I have the same exact problem only that its been going on for a couple months now. It recently got louder and most noticeable. It usually happens on a low gear. What can this be?? It got louder when I did a 3" budget lift.

I'm down in Florida and weather doesn't seem to affect the clunking at all. However when I engage the 4x4 it goes away! What is it??

When 4 wheel is engaged torque is being applied to the U joint at each front wheel, in 2 wheel the U joints are not torqued. My left front did the same thing so I pulled the u joint and found 1 bearing cup rusty and dry.

So it allows it to rattle around when it's not in 4x4? Is that what you're saying?

Pretty much. The noise led me to my bad joint.

I heard a clunking noise in mine. Turns out it was a few loose cds rolling around in the pocket in the door. ::Facepalm::

It is always when a problem can be clearly identified and fixed rather than trying this and that. Good deal
