Question Weird problem while on highway last night

so i had just got onto the thruway (i-90) and gotten up to speed when it felt like i was gradually, at a medium pace, loosing forward momentum. Checked rpm's: not rising or lowering. checked oil pressure: didnt budge. check voltage: perfect. It'd look momentum for id say 2-3 seconds at a time and then kick back in. it happened for about 5 minutes or so then just stopped.

Now i was thinking, if it were the transmission, would the rpm's rise because its just the engine by itself not being slowed by anyhting and same thing with the clutch. Please tell me if Im wrong or if you have any suggestions.

I drove about another 40 miles til I got home with no problem. Never heard of anything like this before.

Perhaps just some bad gas? I don't know, but it may not hurt to clean out the fuel system with some good cleaner. Just the cheapest place to start.

You may have also bought gas that had a little bit of water in it. You might try putting a little Heet in the tank. My old Isuzu truck would do that when I would buy gas at an old station with old tanks but only when their tanks were low. The Heet would fix it every time. Just a thought!

Alien encounter?

I'd throw in some dry gas...it's that time of year again for condensation.

Mine was doing that on long trips and had me stumped for a while. My thermostat was going bad and somehow affected this. Was not really overheating just a small amount above normal.

Fuel filter? If you a running cleaner, it may have clogged your filter. I had one like that and it did what you are talking about a couple of times over a few months before it finally died in Atlanta traffic
