I pressure washed most of the excess mud off mine from last weekend. Ran out of coin so I'll have to finish tomorrow.

Made a new shifter knob out of a piece of elk antler. Turned out pretty good though the pix don't do it justice.

Homemade Instatrunk

I finished my homemade wood and carpet instatrunk. It has about 9 cubic feet of storage.

First I traced my old Instatrunk onto the wood to get the proper shape against the tailgate:
[IMG][/IMG]

Cut 1/2" plywood with circular saw and checked for fit:
[IMG][/IMG]

Measured and cut the back piece:
[IMG][/IMG]

Assembled two pieces with screws and 2x4 brace:

Homemade Instatrunk part 2

Roll of 6'x8' indoor outdoor carpet from Lowe's for $17:
[IMG][/IMG]

Traced out carpet, cut and started to staple it on:
[IMG][/IMG]

Drilled for 4 eye hooks and countersunk so nuts would be smooth under carpet:
[IMG][/IMG]

Finished carpeting - originally I used 1/2" weather stripping around all the edges but I didn't like it so I removed it and applied carpet instead on all edges except the back edge that fits against the tailgate. Somehow the pics of the carpeted edges got lost:

Homemade instatrunk part 3

Here's the hardware I used to secure the trunk to the tub:
[IMG][/IMG]

Hardware installed - this also shows the weather stripping that I didn't like - I wonder what happened to the other pics?:
[IMG][/IMG]

Last two shots - installed and packed:
[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

I have a couple more I'll post later if I can figure out where they went.

Overall, I am very happy with it. Tons more room than the original instatrunk, and the carpeting blends in nice with the interior of the Jeep. Also it is very easily removed by a twist of the 4 turnbuckles - yet reasonably secure.

I herculined my jeeps interior and I am glad to have everything back together again. Except for the two rear seat mount bolts that broke off

Yeah, the carpet was $17, hardware about $7 I think, and I had the plywood already. I found the missing pics - I'll try to get them up tomorrow.

Gus, I made one last summer very similar to yours so I could have lockable space when the top is off. I just need to carpet it. It work great!

I sanded and painted tiny's front bumper to match the rock sliders.

The pics don't do it justice. It's Bronze Hammerite and the texture is awesome!

Home made instatrunk part 4

Bumper looks great Cain!

Finally found the missing pics. These are after I removed the weather stripping around all but the back edge and replaced with carpeting. It looks way better from the inside now.

I broke mine!

Blew a brake line in the rear passengers side then figured out I lost a sway bar bolt and some other missing attachment thing up front.

^ Ain't that the truth. I haven't looked at mine to see what all is broke after the last 4x4 run. I'm afraid of what I might find.

I fixed my brake line that I broke yesterday, then did the driver's side for good measure. Bending my own lines is a PITA but at least it will stop on demand now.
