Well I started to clean up the rust from the first owner. He would leave the top down in the rain with the drain plugs in and the carpet in. Started cleaning the rust with a wire wheel next is the sand blaster.

pics from when carpet first came up.

pics from today

Well my new front alloy axles came in today. I already have alloy outers and Longfield u-joints so I guess I will be putting them togehter this week. My new front truss shipped today so that looks like a weekend job to weld it on. Jack you better be ready because we should start building very soon.

BTW this is a great thread but 1200 posts??? Nobody is going to read through all those. I suggest this is cut into a monthly post such as "What did you do for your Jeep June".

Hell yeah Jimmy. It's time to get you back on the trail bro.

Of course the longer you are down the longer I have to grow the clankers to run Matrix.

You had better grow a bigger front axle at the same time to run Matrix so you can grow those tires up to 37's to match the trail.

I'll just inflate them up to 50 or 60 psi. That should put them about 37".

Yeah I doubt the current gears can handle 36's. That's just something else to talk to Joe about.

I have the new Alloy rears, just don't have them installed yet. I'm going to do the fronts too but I'd like to replace everything when I do including upgrading the u-joints and outers.

I have had nothing but good luck with them. It sometimes seems the people that break stuff and complain the loudest are the ones that abused it and do not want to take the responsability that they caused the damage. You can break anything if you try hard enough!

I recommended some alloy shafts for my buddies rear 44 and have read all the good stuff about them. He hasn't had any problems as I was leaning that way myself for my front 60. I completely agree with everything you just said but these pictures don't lie.

and Ron even said he knows about the problem. It will be interesting to see the updates he gives. I don't doubt Alloys customer service or warranty. Just interesting to keep up with that situation.

Ron's response.

Both have been sent for metallurgy and heat treat analysis. Results in about a week. While our breakage percentage is still less than 1% on Dana 60 shafts even with these failures, we take any failure seriously and will not only resolve the problem we will do whatever it takes to take care of our customers.

#3. We have a 10-year warranty regardless of whose fault.

#5. We are looking at increasing the radius, but it may mean the elimination of the "V-seal" area.

Excuse my ignorance, is that a picture of a 44 or 60? I didn't quite understand what you were saying about your buddies 44.

Pictured is a failure of a dana 60 outer. I suggested some Alloy Shafts for my buddies rear Dana 44 after he twisted some splines drag racing. He has had no problems with the Alloy shafts.

I have been watching that thread also but my outers are not in that batch as i have had them for about a year. They have always stepped up to deal with problems when they come up.

Yeah I hear ya. My wife and I were just talking about cashing in some of the equity in our home - the first thing out of her mouth was "OH! I see, you want to buy more Jeep crap don't you?"

My wife keeps bugging me to gear her axles. I told her I didn't want to cause I didn't want to "polish a turd"

Her direct response was... "one tons are cool!"
