you going with the 8" stretch or keeping the 5.5" kit? Didn't you just get the RK kit though?

We were discussing some options. Technically with out going into it all we could do it just by getting some new rear arms.

Really? What about the springs? Wouldn't you have to relocate those? For a stretch, I'd really like to run coil-overs and relocate them to mount on the outside of the frame.

Sure some stuff would have to be relocated. That's the great thing about metal. It's always moveable.

Running coil overs on the outside of the frame on a TJ with stock axles would be a pretty interesting feat.

Today's misadventures...

Started out calling around to see if anybody had a hitch in stock. I figured if anybody was likely to have one in stock that I could pick up today, it would be the one and only Jeep specialty shop in town. Turns out they had already sold their last one and they wouldn't be getting any more... as they are going out of business at closing time today. Dammit!

On the upside, everything they had left was 50% off. Scored a Bestop Safari top, Bestop header, and a set of Warrior mirror relocation brackets for a total of $106 out the door.

The Safari top required at least an hour and a half of intense cursing... then I came inside and downloaded the instructions.

I'm still not sure if I like the relocation brackets. I sort of installed the one for the drivers side. It just looked like something that would vibrate and whistle in the wind while driving down the highway.

Also, it seemed like the door hitting the mirror before catching the straps would be a problem as well.

So, I took it back off for now.

Here's a left/right comparison, with the drivers side relocated.

While I had the camera out, I got pics of last weekend's upgrade.

And, last but not least, just a totally unrelated random pic of nothing...

Wow, $106 for everything? That's a great price.
How do you like the safari top?
I agree, the relocation bracket doesn't look right. To me, it looks like something came loose or you lost a piece, not secure. I have no experience with these things so I'm just going by the picture.

I have those relocation brackets and I was happy with 'em until I got a little too close to a tree.....knarled the bracket, mirror survived w/o damage.

The open area facing the front is what I didn't like.....and it proved me right when the small tree caught it

I think the original brackets look better.

I'm really liking the safari top so far. I spent the majority of the time riding with the rear and side windows out of the soft top. The safari top makes for pretty much the same configuration, but without all the flapping of the rear corners that the soft top has. I might get a little wetter when it storms, but that's why I pulled the floor plugs. The only thing I can think of to criticise is that the side straps mid-way back could stand to be an inch or two longer. They're just barely long enough, but I'm hopng they'll stretch out with some use.

I put the relocation brackets back in the box they came in. I'll probaly post them up on craigslist or something. Thanks for the advice!

Loaded up the wife and went to the Kansas Krawl 5. It was a good time. Cold all day though. Didn't stop us from running some fun stuff! This climb was almost a 70 degree incline up to the top where it leveled out some. Full throttle all the way.

and a random one from some boulders.

I have some more but need to sort through them.

Keep me in the loop on this one, that is my winter project this year. I think I have a direction, but am always looking for different (better/easier) ways to do things!

Thanks. I was really happy with the jeep this weekend. The front suspension is working much better that I ever expected. The rear left something to be desired so back to the drawing board I go. Gonna link it sooner than I had expected. At least now I have some form of education on building a link suspension so hopefully it won't take all that long. :crossfingerssmileyhere:

Well I can only assume that doing the front is much more difficult than the rear. Either way it looks killer.

I went out wheeling with the ac on high to see how the Taurus e fan works to keeping the jeep cool
and so far it works far better then the clutch fan ever did
and its pretty quiet compared to what I thought
I hardly even noticed it was there

You can kick on the winch and suck the front end down on steep grades. It helps the front end (suspension) from unloading.
