What is this thing I just bought?

Kind of a wierd intro. I agree but I just bought a used soft top for my '07 JKU and he threw in, what I thought, was a deck cover for a JKU. I tried installing it and it doesn't fit so I don't think it's for my Jeep. It is too narrow to fit across by 6-8 inches, and it is too long on the sides and ends up sticking forward of my rear seats by about 4 inches. The guy I bought the top from, bought it used a couple of years ago to replace the hard top on his wife's '08 JKU but she changed her mind and decided to keep the hard top. He never installed the soft top or this extra piece but he thought it is for a JKU (before you ask, I checked out the top throughly and I am sure it fits, that was the main purpose for the purchase)

If this is not a JKU deck cover, I need help identifying it so I can find it a good home.

I think it is for a TJ but not sure. It is made by Bestop and has places to strap around roll bars or door surrounds in 4 places. It has plastic clips to go under metal lips on 3 sides. My confusion comes in on the rear portion where there is not a bead for a tailgate bar only the plastic clips. TJs use a tailgate bar like JKs right?

Any thoughts?

That definitely is a deck cover. Go to Bestop and give them the info on the tag and they can tell you what its for.

Ya, I thought of that but all the tag says is that the "product is covered by one or more of the following domestic or foreign patants". Thay may be enough info to give them but it sounds too generic. Hopefully someone that has one will chime in, thanks guys.

Looks like a deck cover to me too.
Here's a pic of one installed.... you might give it a try and see if it works.

It's for a TJ.

And yes it still uses a tailgate bar. the two "flaps with rubber like plastic slide into the tailgate bar.

Thanks for the input but that's my confusion, I'm sure it's a deck cover but not sure what Jeep it fits. I've tried it on my JK and it's too narrow and too long (yes, I'm sure I had it oriented the correct way). I found a video on Youtube of someone installing one on a TJ and I was sure I had found my answer up until he installed the tailgate bar (and there is no bead on this piece to attach a bar). I called the previous owner and he said he had never installed it after buying it used a couple of years ago. He just assumed it went to a JKU since the top he bought along with it does.

I've seen those deck covers in catalogs since I can remember and I may see 1 or 2 jeeps a year with one installed. The bikini top I get because some days you may want some protection from the elements. Are the deck covers for looks or do they have a function when on or off road?

I see the TJ ones on ebay for $35-$45 so you have some gas money if it doesn't fit.

Sweet, you must have posted as I was composing my last post.

Thanks, I was thinking it might have been something like that.

I'm still going to look around, I do want something for my JKU. I just want something to keep things from blowing out and somewhat out of sight. I haven't decided if I want a full cover or just straps. I never leave anything of value in my rig, but I'm even looking into making or buying something secure for the back (hard cover, insta-trunk, etc). Ah, so many projects and so little money.

i keep one on my YJ when i'm running my bikini top. it just help to keep things out of sight, from blowing around, or getting rained on in one of those afternoon out of nowhere summer showers we get down here. i know they don't do much for security but they at least provide some sort of protection compared to just leaving something laying in the back wide open

How much do you wanna get out of it?
I might be interested.

My biggest concern is that my cage isn't padded, might have some fitment issues

I wouldn't mind selling it for $45, shipped but even though I've gotten great feedback and I pretty sure it's for a TJ I'm not 100%. I guess who ever buys it could do like me and re-sell it if it dosen't fit. Wasn't there some chick flick about traveling pants, I guess this could be the traveling dust cover (lol).
PM me if you're interested in giving it a try.

We have a winch in our club that's like that. I won it in a drawing, gave it to a fellow Jeep Gal, her hubby won a better one a couple of weeks later so they gave the first one away again...

Well... with shipping $45 isn't too bad.. but after thinking about it some and not being sure if it would fit especially since I don't have padding on my roll cage, I don't think I would want to mess with it.

Particularly since the guys in my group are a bunch of tightwads and I'd never get my money back out of it.

Someone will want it.

Good call, I'd feel much better selling it to someone local so we can make sure it fits.

You shouldn't have any trouble finding someone to snatch it up. If I lived nearby, I would have already been there

The rear roll bar holes look to be angled, in which case it would be for a YJ with the sport bar.

Well, it's on Craig's list for a TJ, I'll have them try it on before we finalize the deal (if it sells). Thanks for the info.
