What jeep should i look for!

ok so im looking for a jeep, i found a few in my area 1 was a 89 wrangler with 70k on it , auto, rebuilt engine. another is a 92 wrangler with 125k new clutch, lifted, 5 speed. what would you guys do. my budget is only 6000$

id go with the 92 depending if it was used offroad extensively. i personally would prefer stick than auto, but thats just me. what jeep is more your jeep?

I doubt the '89 only has 70K on it. I would suggest you keep looking. For 6K you should be able to find a newer one. I would try to find one close to stock, then build it how you want. Good luck.

89 with rebuilt motor @ 70k?I'll bet the seats have never been sat on either.Shop around.

ok so i looked around and i found a 97 wrangler 5 speed with 150k on it personally that sounds like a lot to me but i wanted to see what you guys think about it

i agree, with $6k, you should be able to find a pretty good condition TJ, especially if it's a DD. I mean don't get me wrong, I love my YJ, but anyone who tells you a TJ doesn't ride better is lying..

You should be able to get a 94-5 for that budget...Personally I'd stay away from anything newer as the mods can get expensive

Definitely save some money for things that break immediately upon purchase ha ha. And I have 83 CJ with under 80k on it. They are out there. Bought it for 2900 my 89 yj for 3000 so keep looking

so i looked at the 92 today and it ended up to be a 93. so i drove it and i rode good. i like it a lot but im still stuck

yeah so i got the 93 down to $5000, but the temp gauge and the oil pressure gauge dont work. could that be the thermostat? and idk about the oil? and i have been looking for some time now and cant seem to find a cheaper 1. HELP

Don't buy one just because its all you can find right now. Keep adding money to your 6k till you find the one that you connect with. Then you will have more money to put towards mods when you find the perfect jeep. It is so worth waiting to get the right jeep.

If you are going to spew this kind of BS on the site then please provide more details. Motor, trans, and miles on the drive train to start. Has it been fu**ed up or is it bone stock. What other hidden gems are you passing on to the next owner? I paid a lot more than $6k for a bone stock, immaculate 1994 YJ, with 56K original miles on the clock and have never looked back. She was a two owner all CA rig with absolutely no mechanical issues and no rust. A great starting point for me.

ok its a 93 wrangler s. it has 35 in tires with american racing rims. it has a 6 inch lift ( i dont know what the brand is) it comes with a hard top, half doors and full doors. it is rhino lined on the inside. it is a 4 cylinder 5 speed. there is not one spot of rust on the jeep believe it or not! there is 125000 miles on this jeep. he will be the second owner. the clutch was replaced about a year ago because he was just learning how to drive stick. and it feels very new.

Its a red, 01 TJ with 121,xxx miles. 2.5L 4cyl. Bone stock. Nothing at all wrong with it. No "hidden gems" I can PM you pictures if you'd like. I'm looking to upgrade to a 6cyl. Full doors and new soft top. I live in MA, where you at? The value of it is the price I am asking, not sure why people would assume it is in bad condition.

im going to look at a 95 today, 5 speed, 140k. now im not sure but how long do these last, what is the life expectancy? i mean it looks really clean when i drove by it but im testing it today but my question is, is 140k a lot for a jeep?

140k isn't a lot. They are known to go well past 200k

I payed under 5k for my '98 TJ, 2.5L 5 speed with 130k miles. It's got it's share of gremlins, I'm discovering every day, but for a northern climate that salts their roads this is remarkably free of rust. I bought mine on 3 criteria:

1. Does the engine knock or make "bad" noises?
2. Does it make not-so-normal noises when it hits bumps/rough roads? Does it keep steering in a straight line or start tracking all funny?
3. Does the underside look like it was taken care of during the winter?

Engine/drivetrain, suspension, and frame were cherry. So I nabbed it. Someone else may not have thought it was a good deal though, but I couldn't be happier.

NO NO and NO.

1st it is a 4cly
2nd it is a 4cly
3rd: its a 4cly with 35's...

It will need a new gears to run that size tires correctly and will not have enough power to get out of the way of a snail. Get a 6cly 91 or newer and you will be happy.

I say buy it, yank the motor and sell it (will bring 500-900), and drop in a V8

But seriously, if you dont wanna do that, 4Jeepn is right...4 pooper with anything larger than a 30x9.50 is a turd and its gonna be an uphill battle
