Hello...This is a guy looking for advice / opinion to your experience with these years wranglers. A little history I have owned a 2004 for 2 years and a 2014 for two years. I now have nothing !.. I want a jeep to both drive as a second vehicle and to tinker with minor upgrades. I want to spend less than 15K. I liked the straight 6 motor but they are hard to find now without 100K miles or more. I don't know much about motors in 2007-2009 ? I want automatic and hard top. What should I be careful of when looking in these years? What years are your favorite or does it really matter in my price range.
JK is going to cost more. For your budget I would recommend the TJ Unlimited with 6cyl. I think most years of the TJ Unlimited came with a 4speed automatic or 6spd manual. For the trail the TJ is also narrower.
I have had both, but a TJ might fit your needs best. If you like to tinker the TJ is more friendly. I was not a big fan if the 3.8 with an auto. JK's drive better on the street. Look for frame rust on the TJ's. Any jeep meeting your criteria that has been well maintained should be a winner. If I was shopping for you, 03-04 rubicon.
