X2. You'll never hear ANYONE say "I wish I'd bought that XYZ brand winch instead of this danged ol' Warn!"
When it comes to Jeeps and self-recovery equipment, the old saying of "You've gotta pay to play" applies itself perfectly.

i'm hoping to buy a winch soon (just need to get a job first!) and really want a warn. They have quality winches and are an all around great brand, company, etc. still being on a budget, i have been looking at the vr8000, and i'm leaning towards it quite a bit now. if i got anything else i'd either throw down and treat myself to the m8000 or drop down and go with a new quadratec. either way i think i'll buy new for the warranty.

You won't regret it. Warn has a great warranty and best of all, a great reputation. History has proven that Warn is the Ferrari of winches. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to winches.

And like Ferrari, made by Volvo.

Rarely will you use a winch on yourself, before you "pay to play" with just a name, go to a 4 wheel parts store or anywhere they sell winches and look at them for yourself, its fairly apparent the only difference other than the name is the price.

Well why buy a Jeep then? There are cheaper 4x4s out there. You're not just buying a name, you're buying the history of that name.

Not to sound like a shill, but since we're talking about value, to check out our Entry Level Series VR winches. The VR8000 and VR10000 are both available with our Spydura synthetic rope or wire rope; the VR12000 is also available (steel rope only). We've got a rebate going on until May 31, too.

No, your not just buying a name, ask anyone in a toyota and they will explain to you the engineering differences between Jeeps and other off-road vehicles. The point being there are differences other than body and badging when it comes to Jeep vs whatever.

Im sorry if your offended, the fact is if you go look at varying winches you will see that the have the same housings, switches, control boxes and structures, only the badging is different, they are made in the same place.

I have three winches. A Warn XD9000i on my Jeep, a Harbor Freight winch on my car hauler, and a 2 year old Smitty XRC8 sitting on my garage floor.
All three of them have completely different housings, switches, control boxes and structures

The Warn is the only one that works.

I need to go ask someone in a Toyota about my Jeep's engineering differences? That just doesn't make any sense to me.
And I'm not offended in the least. I'm just arguing my point the same as you're arguing yours.

The point was you can't compare the engineering required for a vehicle to the 3 moving parts in a winch

I have a Superwinch lp8500. Been on the jeep for a year and half or so. Probably has 50 pulls on it with no failures. Just bought a synthetic line for it too

Your post tells me a few things. You must not wheel much and your guessing that the OP dosent plan on doing it much eather. You have x-ray vision becouse you can tell what the inside of a winch looks like by just looking at it,(thats what counts not what it looks like) and you have a china made winch and feel the need to justify your self.

So what he's trying to say is that warn has it's outstanding reputation just because it has a fancy badge? That statement sounds pretty dumb to me
