What would you pay?

Hello, I'd like to start by introducing myself. I'm a new member from Iowa, I just graduated from ISU with a degree in Supply Chain Management. I got a job right after graduation in December and worked my way through school and have no debt. Now that I have some good income it is time to upgrade from my 99Chevy Tracker. I've always loved Jeep Wranglers. My buddy from high school had an unlimited and despite fuel costs these days I want a Jeep Wrangler. I used to drive an 89 Cherokee and I loved it, but always wanted a Wrangler. I have done quit a bit of research on the net and this website looks great and I figure it would be a great place to ask some questions.

Here's the deal: I am looking at a used 06 Jeep Wrangler X. It has 65k on it, a 2 inch spacer lift, skyjacker shocks, black wheels, 31 inch tires, a tented soft top with full doors. It is flame red with a 6 speed manual tranny. It is in great shape, underbody has been coated, no rust or dings, basically looks brand new. The previous owner apparetnly traded it in and got a Tahoe due to a 3rd child on the way and hated to part with it. I have test drove it twice and it rides smoother than my Tracker which suprised me.

One conern is that it has more than 65K miles on it. When I test drove it I plugged in my Garmin, which is GPS, and it said that the Jeep was going about 2-4 mph faster than what the speedmotor showed. This is because of the bigger tires and the computer not being reset. Would anyone have an idea of how many more miles it would have? Is this a concern?

One more question-it doesn't have the death wobble, but the steering does shake back and forth maybe just an eight to a quater inch while going down the road. It stays straight, so alignment seems fine, and it doesn't really shake bake and forth when you put your hands on the wheel. Is this a concern? I have read a lot of bad stories about the 'death wobble' but like I said it goes straight. Maybe it is because of the small lift and bigger tires and not having upgraded to a bigger stabailizer(might be the wrong name, its the thing that looks like a shock that is for steering that is horizontal in front of the axle)?

Other than that it seems to be in outstanding condition and I plan to make an offer soon. I know it may be tough to take a guess at what it is worth without any pics, but could you tell me what a good offer would be? They are asking $15,995. Again, its a flame red 06 Wrangler X with 65K, 6 speed manual, black wheels, 31 inch mud terrain tires, tented factory top, 2 inch spacer lift with Skyjacker shocks, and no dints or dings, no rust, and the interior is great.
Some counter arguements would be that the tires are almost bald, it does not have a matching spare wheel/tire(just the stock ones), more miles than what it shows due to oversized tires and no computer reset. Also, the rear left shock needs replaced, it is leaking.

Sorry for the long post, but any help is greatly appreciated!! I really want to buy this thing, just checking what some people who know WAY more than me can tell me to help out a future Jeeper!!

That's more than I would pay for a 6-7 year old vehicle. Check with Edmunds.com, KBB.com and NADA.com to find out what it is worth in your area.

I have seen newer Wrangler (JK body) going for less than that.

JMOHO. Good luck on finding what you want at a price that is fair to you.

Remember, a good deal is one that both parties are happy with.

That is similar to the one I just bought about 6 weeks ago. Mine had less than 50k miles, almost new 32" tires, a winch, off road lights, aftermarket exhaust, and upgraded audio with subwoofer. That was the asking price for mine also. I talked them down a little, but for this area and all the upgrades I think I got a fair deal. I am very happy with my decision.

I paid $13k for a 2002, automatic, 31's, warn winch, three in suspension lift, hard top, 2 bikini tops, and it's a 4.0 with 50k at the time I bought it.
Do I look like a cat to you boy? Am I jumpin' around all nimbly bimbly from tree to tree? Am I drinking milk from a saucer? DO YOU SEE ME EATING MICE?

If you're willing to spend 16k on a used TJ, I would suggest being patient and looking for an 04 rubicon. That way you have lockers and don't have to worry about an SYE when (if) you lift it. My 2 cents.
