What's Jeep thinking?

First the new Cherokee, now this fiat 500 thing. What's happening to the off road vehicles?

Two forces at work, corporate average fuel economy requirements and Jeep is a subsidiary of Fiat.

The vast majority of people who buy offroad vehicles never take them offroad. Pretty much every other 4x4 out there has gotten far far away from their roots. Jeep is no exception. It's inevitable.

^ This. CAFE requirements from 2015 on are going to be tough to meet. Also federal crash standards are ever changing. This forces auto manufacturers to scrap perfectly good platforms when they can no longer be modified to pass the newest standards.

Expect the Wrangler as we know it to be regulated out of existence sometime in the future.

It's a wonder anyone over 40 is alive, what with all the death traps we were riding in and forced to learn to drive in.
