wheels... AKA rims...

ok so I just bought my younger brother (17yoa) an 89 cherokee with the 4.0L I6 (ya don't rub it in boys and girls I am jelous of the engine...). Its his first vehicle ever, and even though its not a wrangler and I'm proud to say that I picked it out and bought it. I'll post pics of it later.

Anyway on another note it needs alot of work that is going to be put into it. He is going to be using it for his senior project and his work will be cut out for him over the next few months.

My main question is that I have a set of rims from my wrangler sitting around and would like to know if they would fit his "new" XJ as it will need new tires.

Here is a list of things that he is going to need to do/purchase for his newly found project...

front/rear brake pads rotors and possibly drums.
sway bar bushings
muffler (probably going with a cherry bomb)
radiatior overflow bottle
power steering cap
battery
ignition/tumbler keyset
Tires
interior body spray (due to the no carpet)
Front end clip (bumper/grill)
radio antenna
and a battery cable.

If you guys could give me some advice on helping with this project it would be most helpful (and if you have any spare parts for a 89, or like model years, let me know if we can work something out)
Mostly I just need suggestions on stuff to do to it within reason to be functionable and fun

Thanks guys,
Fox

Yes the wheel will fit.

A grinder with cutoff wheel is cheap and effective on cherokee's.
Thanks guys,
Fox
As far as parts go....Cherokee's are very easy to find in junk yards and parts go for cheap.

I have xj wheels on my 95 wrangler, so I know they will fit.

Go to our sister site, CherokeeForum.com and read up on what they have to offer.

Man, what a nice brother. Wish my 2 dollar brother bought me something like that.

If you were on the east coast, I could help you out with some tires.

Depending on the condition of the springs you can fit 30's under there though 235's are probably a better choice. Reinx ignition system is a good one. Check the rear hatch hinges, they tend to break also check the door hinges, they tend to pull away. If the front clip is coming off it's a good time to reinforce those front hinges.
North American XJ Association has a lot of good info dedicated to XJ's and MJ's in addition to enough parts for sale for them to build a hundred XJ's.

One suggestion... that radiator over flow bottle is going to be a PITA. Just get a new radiator from a 91 or newer XJ and drop it in. Did the same thing for our MJ because the overflow would constantly overflow and leak. This way you get a regular radiator with a cap.
